Is there any reason that the domain shown on the left of this comparison should be outranking the domain shown on the right? Up until I think the past google update the site on the right was outranking the site on the left by good margin. Now the opposite is true. Anyone have any suggestion on why this would happen?

We need more data to be sure what happened. But the recent update favored sites that has links in the content body. Google believes such links are natural and good.

Really I am tired of having to study the Almighty Google's Algorithms. I guess Google like to bend the web to what they want and feels is right.

What kind of data do you need. For the site on the right after I built the website I submitted it to the business directories, Yelp, Google Plus, Yellow Pages etc. That alone ranked me #1 for a while. Then the site dropped slightly so I built some blogs with links back. Wordpress blogger, weebly etc. Then it seems that when the most recent update came up my site lost rank for some of my targeted keywords.

Over the past week or so there was tons of movement of the first page or the serps for a few of my targeted keywords. One day my site would jump to #1 and others it would be below the local listings and a competitors site like the site on the left in the comparison would jump up to #2.
