I accidently posted this in the wrong part to start with, sorry about that and hope i don't get it moderated again!

Hi guys, i'm new here and here is my dilemma:

I've been in sponge mode, absorbing everything possible about SEO, link building and so on for about the past 6 months.
I've got a much clearer grip on things, except there's one thing I still don't get.

building up the back links

It seems like the only actual piece of advice given on this is article submission, syndication or guest posting.

but as for the article submit, spin route, everyone says, NOOOO don't do that, google will smite you down with great vengeance and furious anger.

So, how then, do I i build back links to improve my rank? i thought article samurai sounded good (i still like market samurai a lot, even tho it's buggy at times) but then i see it gets bashed into pulp here.

With the nature of my site, i translate and upload articles into Russian, as a rule, i don't produce much content personally. So i cant submit these to directories (and they're in Russian anyway).

So, how can i build my back links and have a site that does rank for my chosen key words?

I will do anything it takes to get this sh*t handed. I still have seven books on my list, but i can and will add to this.

I'll take and explore any recommendation you warriors have for me

thanks in advance!

The way I see it, their are two ways to be pro-active with your SEO while ensuring a long term future and without angering the big G.

Firstly, just copy what your top competitors are doing. Most of the time, the top sites for your keywords won't be abusing black hat strategies. So just search your chosen keyword on Google, pick the top 3 sites, and put them into a website that lists their backlinks and go through them one by one, securing as many for yourself as possible.

Secondly, if you are going to be forcing links in inorganic ways, at least make them good links with useful content.

For example, I had a client with a lighting eCommerce store. I spent a few days building incredibly high quality web 2.0's and articles. I poured a good number of hours into these, making some good content, and then throwing a few links their way via blog comments or forum posting in relative websites in a useful way. The result was that after a month, these pages were gaining links all by themselves just because of the content. And that link juice was being passed on to his website. I even monetized a few of the Web 2.0s with some amazon products to help fund more SEO projects. It was a win win.

Hope that gives you something to work on.

Checking out your competition's link profile is definitely a good idea. You can sometimes copy their entire link profile by guest posting and building relationships with niche sites that they have used for links before. Then you can do additional guest posts and outreach techniques to get more links than they have to overtake them in the SERPS. Try to build long-term relationships with the site owners and found out if they'd be interested in syndicating your content, rather than just accepting unique content as well. Some site owners will accepted syndicated content too. That's a good way to continue using them for links. Remember to link to other pages of your site and not that same URL every time.

In truth, there aren't that many organic ways to build links. You have to think outside the box and do what you can to get natural exposure.

I suggest that you should not only read and read books/articles about SEO. You should get your hands dirty and test those information that you are getting.

Building backlinks is not about doing only article submission, you can gain backlinks in many ways. Try not to use ANY AUTOMATED SOFTWARE in producing content. It won't really serve you well in the long run.

Create a evergreen content and share it to your social media pages. Create something relevant to your niche that readers would actually read, not just view them and close. By sharing your content, your content can be shared and read by other users as well. Tweet, shared, re-pin etc. You can gain backlinks that way.

Blog comments - try commenting on blogs related to your niche, try to look for personal blogs. Usually those blogs are created and being updated everyday. You can also build relationship with those blog owners and try to do a guest post. Keep in mind that blogs should have high PA and DA and indexed by G.

There's a lot more actually that you can gain backlinks naturally. But hope that my 2 cents helps.

You're sponging out of date information, article submission is basically a dead form of link building and will likely get you nowhere fast.

Concentrate on a few things such as a blogger outreach campaign, or some alternatives:
    Sponsor events
    Submit yourself for awards
Offer some of your content as a resource to back up an article somebody has written
Find a popular piece of content that has a lot of links, then copy it but make it better, then contact everybody who links to the inferior content and offer yours as a replacement
Find out of date content and create an up to date version, offer it out
Give special offers to local businesses and then ask advertise it on local government sites
Offer a special offer just to employees/ students of specific businesses/universities, they will often put the offer on a page on their site
    etc etc etc etc

There are literally thousands of ways to build backlinks, think outside of the article submission/automation box.

    Change your mindset!

You need to build links for real people, not for the search engines.

Spinning content is very old-hat and will only hurt you now. - Google is VERY good at reading what is spun and posted due to its grammatical reader and your posting dates, etc.

Built quality content on your own website first and then only engage in ethical link building which should look natural and organic to the search engines.

-Engage with people on social media

-partner up with others in your industry

-get your blog posts syndicated by other news related sites in the industry

    -engage in guest posting.

There are many things a newbie can do but just make sure that you are making the right moves for your business and not hurting it with spammy links!

      thanks for the feedback guys.

From what i can, the key points are:

analyse my comps back link profile
don't bother with spinning, article building software, article submission

Also thanks for the other suggestions. I try and only bring the most interesting / relevant materials into great quality Russian. I share everything on VK, FB and twitter etc.

I'm going to try and up my blogging / guest posting efforts, probably I'll try guest interviews as that would fit my site quite well

@massiveray, thanks for that link also, will be taking a look later on today.

Out of curiously, when you look at the comps back-link profile, is it easy to tell when they've been using shady back-link building?

My top 'competition' (although technically my site offers something slightly different) will be Russian and on Yandex primarily but Russians are notorious for spam kind of tactics (it's still a lot easier to get away with black hat link stuff on yandex than on Google ).
