Yaiks, 15% more clicks on paid ads means 15% less clicks on organic results.

Are you seeing much images in the paid listings yet? I don't so far.

Someone tweeted it, I didn't look for a source.

I think it's something said at Pubcon as Matt gave a speech there.

PageRank to toolbar broke the other day. We have nobody on staff to fix it. So we won't update it for the rest of the year. Sorry

      From Mr. Cutts:

      Negative SEO

We've built the algorithm such that ONE person couldn't torpedo a site There are so many people thinking about negative SEO and their competitors are going after them. We put up disavow tool for you. You should be able to disavow on a site level as well. This is very minimal and doesn't happen that well. With Google Webmaster Tools, you can get up to 100k links that your site has and get rid of whichever ones you don't like or think are negative to you. You can sort by most recent. Do it!

He chooses his words carefully on purpose? One person could not torpedo a site. hmm ok Matt.

How about a tool running 5000 threads that is programmed to mimic 5000 people torpedoing a site? And they don't stop for lunch or toilet breaks either.

How bout that disavow tool. How long would the average site be down before an action is lifted and SERPs return? Long enough for most online dependent business's to go broke would be the answer.

I'd be careful about reading too heavily into what somebody has obviously hastily typed up and minuted live as the conversation was happening. Maybe SEJournal could afford a proper touch typist next time?

Edit: Also, it's just MC defending the party line. Pretty much what we'd expect. To be fair to him, if he said that the Disavow tool's effects were "minimal" and "didn't happen that well" (context not entirely clear) then it seems he's being pretty honest.

He's a bit vague about that, does he mean that the sitewide disavowing happens at a minimum rate or is the effect of disavowing noticable in a minimum way, I think he meant the first, but well it remains a bit of guessing.

Kevin also has a good point, disavow should be handled on a live base and not take longer then 24 hours to be corrected.

Sure people might abuse it but a spammy link is a spammy link, simple like that and when you rank based on spam and disavow that spam you still won't rank.

It's about time that Google builds something in that prevents ranking based on thousands if not millions of links. Custom footprints or not, it's pretty obvious when a ton of spammy links add up in a matter of days.

"15% more clicks on ads" DOESN'T EQUAL to "15% less clicks on organic results".

Your right it doesn't necessarily mean it's taking away from organic clicks, especially considering organic listings can include either a G+ profile image or even better a video thumbnail image.

If it was posted by Google or Matt C. it makes me wonder If it's a publicity stunt to try & increase G+ users/images/accounts.

A source might have helped explain the thread title/subject.
