Hey folks, so my boss at work went to Vegas to hear matt cutts speak...This is his summary about Hummingbird, and what Matt addressed.

Las Vegas | Pubcon

Guys,

This recent update from Google is the start of a broader conversation around layered searching or conversational search. Google recognized that with users doing more voice query searches through mobile devices there was a need to make searching more conversational over the long-term. I expect multiple Hummingbird updates long-term as harnessing conversational search is critical long term for Google.

As Google is learning more about us through our search behaviors and other Google products they are striving to marry all of them to answer search queries such as:

  1. Where am I eating dinner tonight and who with?
  2. Do I know someone who can fix my water heater?
  3. How can I avoid traffic driving home?
  4. Will it be raining at the Cardinals game next Tuesday?

Other example of specific searches may be:
  1. I need a new red dress for my date on Friday
  2. I saw Christie wearing a yellow shirt yesterday on G+, what was the brand? (layered question)
  3. Where can I find a dress for $150 - $200 with free shipping?
  4. What year did I buy that black shirt from xyz.com site?

In it’s current form, Google provides us non-specific, general listings for these search queries. In the future, this will all change.

I don't know if someone addressed this, but thought I'd share to you guys.

Those searches seem to strange, I've never typed something into Google that way. I don't have conversations with a search engine....

Thats because you arent the typical user that utilizes siri. That is one problem that many SEOs and internet marketing types have. They think because they dont do it or wouldn't do it then the mass public wont either.

Thats just not the truth. Watch your mother use a computer and Google. Itll shock you the way they navigate the web, thats how the general public uses the web too. My wife even shocks me, I am an internet marketer and i cant help but laugh at how she searches Gogole.

It will need to use a scary amount of data about the users personal life to answer those questions.

I'm sure they'll continue to skip over stop-words to speed up the SERPs.

Example, of the keywords that matter in red.

I need a new red dress for my date on Friday
I also imagine the two keywords new & Friday will have Google looking for a recent date/time on the page they rank for the entire search phrase. That's where the php current date/time code helps, for time sensitive pages, but can also be used for old evergreen pages/content.

With the amount of $$ they have, shoot I don't doubt that they can grab all that amount of data.
