Question about domains/regional domains and SEO implications

Hi guys!

I'm trying to register an .es domain (Spain), the problem is that for an .es domain you can't protect your personal information with whois privacy and I want to protect it, however...I've heard of some domain registers that allow you to do that, except with your name that must be visible, I don't know why some allow you to protect that information and others don't, but this is not the main problem...

The problem is that I want to open an ecommerce store that will sell to spanish customers, I've read that in this case is better to get a regional domain (in this case .es). However, because of the whois problem, maybe I choose the .com domain.

In eyes of SEO, what is better?:

1. Getting an .es domain, because my customers are in Spain.
2. Getting a .com domain and then, via Google Webmasters Tools, put a geo targeting to Spain users.

It has the same effects?

Imagine that later, I want also to sell to UK customers. What can I do in this cases:

CASE 1: I have an .es domain.
CASE 2: I have a .com domain.

I'm very confused and I appreciate your help, please help me!!

Thanks

Maybe the best option is to buy a .com domain. Then with Google Webmaster Tools I geotarget mysite.com to Spain.

If later I also want to sell to UK customers I can make: mysite.com/uk and with Google Webmasters Tools geotarget that folder to UK.

Because maybe some people will put in the adressbar this: mysite.es, I can also buy mysite.es and redirect it to mysite.com that is in spanish language. So I can get all potential traffic from people typing .com and .es and I also protect the .es domain in case someone wants to steal my customers.

Then I put all my SEO efforts in mysite.com

Am I in the right way or not?

    Thanks
