It all depends on the niche, and all depends on how aggressive your ad placement is located.

Its like saying how many pain killers do you need to help with someone back pain. You have to factor in weight, height, muscle tone, etc.

As a general rule of thumb across all 'normal' niches that I've made and talked to other owners about, with good Adsense placement the average is 30 unique visitors per $1 earned. This has more of less been the average Adsense rate for most of the websites I've built specifically to earn profit with Adsense. If you really annoy your visitors (put lots of ads up front and center), you can get even higher earnings. One of my sites was earning $1 per 12 unique visitors while I had a certain very ad-spammy template on it.

There are some niches that $1 per 30 visitors doesn't apply to though, such as niches with very low advertising competition or very tech-savvy niches that don't click advertisements as often.

I think the real answer is there no general rules, I have sites that are getting $200 a day with 50,000 people a day. However, have a site with 100 people a day pulling in 40 bucks.

Really, 30 visitors is super low for $1. It all depends, and really hard to say.

This is about as good as it gets for me and I don't get it every day. I fluctuate between $20 and $30 per 1,000 visitors. I'm in an okay paying niche, but receive about 50% of my traffic from Europe, Asia and the Middle East which lowers CPC significantly (but still well worth it).

To earn $30 per 1,000 visitors I'm fairly aggressive with ads. 98% of traffic is from social media for my biggest Adsense earner.

However, if you choose a really high paying niche, 1,000 visitors could earn far more than $30.

Is 'annoying' visitors really the direction we want IM to go and is this the reputation us IMers really want??

And sorry, but I think this type of 'ad-spammy template' you talk about implementing is a good reason why people look at this business the way they do ........ with disdain !

Generally an EPC is $0.2 for English. And the CTR is 3% (if the layout of a website is good). Your target is $100/day with Adsense.

    Let do the math:

    $100 / $0.2 = 500 clicks per day.

    500 clicks / CTR 3% = 16666.67 visitors per day

In one month, you could earn...

    16666.67 visitors per day x 30 days = 500,000 visitors per month

In my opinion, if you are getting the traffic stated in this thread, 1,000+ per day visitor stats and earning peanuts from Adsense, then knock it on the head and start SELLING from your websites instead.

Seriously, Adsense is peanuts compared to converting the traffic into sales. It amazes me why people GIVE away their traffic for a pittance, say 30p or 30 c when they could convert that same traffic and make 100x the amount per visitor.

this is true. selling products/services will always make you more than just advertising those products and services.

but doing both is even better.

      infact...

      PPS (products/services)
      PPL (email submits generally)
PPC (the old fashioned click-for-money model; adsense)
PPM (pay per impression. generally unpopular but still out there)
PPI (pay per install. Before pinballpublishingnetwork went under they were the top. Not sure about others now as I am still looking myself)

      Put 'em all in.

The more networks you belong to the better.

      • Totally agree with what people are saying above.

I use Adsense to supplement other selling on my sites. An easy thing to do is setup an Amazon review site and add Adsense, that's a good way to start.

AdSense has never really been a top generator for me and once I realized that and moved on to other not-so-mainstream methods of monetization is when I turned the corner.

Think about - there is really no barrier to entry for Adsense or expertise required, do you really expect to make a ton of money?

Making $100/day with Adsense isn't easy. $1 clicks aren't the norm, and 10% CTR isn't either.

Here are your choices and their simple.

High traffic low CPC, low traffic high CPC.

Getting high traffic and high CPC takes large sites because the majority of keywords are "taken" if you will.

My advice to anyone starting out is to look for high traffic low CPC keywords because you have a chance to rank, earn money and reinvest.

Thinking your going to make a 5 page car insurance site is a waste of your time if you actually want to get to $100/day.

Make a great site that people want to visit, give them the information they expect to find, and then test the hell out of ad placements and settings.

I never discuss my personal stats but trust me when I say the numbers thrown around here are absurd in most cases. Learn who to trust and don't waste your time chasing pipe dreams.

It seems that there are a lot of people that did not have success with Adsense, and therefore believe that it is pointless. Adsense might not be the answer for everyone, but it definitely works for some people. To prove that point, I wanted to post my stats on this thread. I make between $400 and $600 per day with Adsense as my only monetization method on a specific group of sites. On a per site basis, my average ctr is above 5% and each site gets around 700 to 1000 visitors a day on average.

In regards to the comments about Adsense not being worth it, I think you also have to factor in that time is money. What makes it worthwhile for me is that I don't have to do any pre or post sale customer support on my sites. I also know that my site visitors are not looking to purchase anything, I know this because I routinely run ad block tests with affiliate and cpa offers.

    Hope that helps someone.

If it helps I have found that just by having 1 banner add at the top then G sends me the highest cpc adds and general this strategy makes me more money then having loads of adds.

Also the Text Adds definitely make me more money then picture adds. I have the words color coded to the same as my site text so I guess some users think they are a way of navigating through the site.

        Best regards,
Sure, here are a few tips that I think are important.

        1. Implement Adsense section targeting.
        2. Make sure you test various ad block placement options
        3. Use a theme that allows plenty of space for you present your content.
        4. Determine if you should run text ads only or display ads and text ads.

On many of my sites, I use the Gazette theme by Woo Themes. For me, it has been a steady performer in terms of giving a good user experience AND allowing me to place 2 ad blocks within the content, which is where 99% of my clicks come from.

I use a 468x60 below the title, and a 250x250 above the fold almost 100% of the time whenever I use the Gazette theme.

You can also now use the Experiments feature to test which type of ads are performing best in each ad block.

        I hope that helps you,

        Sheryl

One question. Is it allowed to have banner right under article title ? (Google Tos )

I have test few location and wrapping ads into left top corner of article has giving me best result. That ads is 336 x 280
Then I have another on right sitebar above folder plus one under article.

I have spoken with the folks at Adsense a few times and they are the ones who suggested the placement under the title, so I think it should be fine.

One thing I would also try if I were you would be to see what happens to the value of your clicks if you get rid of the bottom ad block. Adsense is an auction, so you want to try and show the ads of the auction winner and not too many after that. That is what works for me, so try using only the ad block that is perfoming the best and see how that impacts your click values.

      Sheryl that is really Awesome

But in all due respect, you seem to be putting all your eggs in one basket.

Five years ago this methodology worked like a charm. I did not make quite that much money as you but the money I did make with Adsense was totally passive income at its very best.

Here is the bummer. You are strictly relying on Organic Traffic. Unfortunately, it will not last forever.

That is why people here at WF are so incessant about building a List and owning your own traffic. Do not rely on Google.

I am not trying to sound like a jerk but the party will not last forever. This is reality.

It is not a matter of if but just when.

I would be sure to not quit your day time job if Adsense is your only form of monetization in IM.

( Note: Maybe Iam being presumptuous and this last sentence I wrote is not true. My apologizes if so)

Adsense is not the only monetization program that I can run on my sites. I have had great success with other companies such as Media.net and BuySellAds, and if necessary I could switch to those companies immediately.

        2. Here is the bummer. You are strictly relying on Organic Traffic.

Less than 1% of my traffic comes from Google/Yahoo/Bing organic traffic and I doubt that I would ever feel comfortable relying on a search engine to bless me with traffic that could turn off at any moment.

        3. That is why people here at WF are so incessant about building a List and owning your own traffic. Do not rely on Google.

I never said that I rely on Google. In reality, I use other social media platforms, my list and my FB fan page to drive my traffic. I am not sure why you assumed that I was relying on Google but I can assure you that is not the case.

        4. I am not trying to sound like a jerk but the party will not last forever. This is reality.

No party lasts forever. Especially not the one that you have mistakenly assumed that I am enjoying at the present moment. Things change in business, this is the only thing that you can count on in business.

        5. I would be sure to not quit your day time job if Adsense is your only form of monetization in IM.

WOW. Yes, this was very presumptuous and also condescending. I have not had a "day time job" working for someone else since 1997, which obviously is years before Adsense was invented.

I am well aware of the risks associated with Adsense, and I choose to put my eggs in the Adsense basket because I think that while Google has many flaws, Adsense is not necessarily one of them. I abhor the state of mind of most IM'ers because it wreaks of an eventual sales pitch. On a daily basis, I don't get emails from Google about their latest affiliate attempt to make money off of me or trying to convince me to buy a product that they know I don't really need. Yes, in many ways, Google sucks. But Google doesn't try to send me to squeeze pages so that I can join someone's list of unnecessary follow-up messages. Google's basis for Adsense is simple, they "attempt" to show relevant paid advertisements that are related to what someone is currently reading/viewing on a website. I think that is a beautiful concept. I also think that concept won't work for many "marketers" because it is a concept that is more intended for content publishers. In my opinion, that is why the Adsense party ended for many people.

On a daily basis, I see million dollar companies using Adsense, so I'd like to ask you this question. If you saw a post from million dollar publisher saying that Adsense has worked for them, would you have responded with the same assumptions? Would you have assumed that your limited but successful experience with Adsense somehow trumped theirs and then proceed to let them know that there is a better way? Would you have warned them not to quit their day job because their party would be ending soon because it was only a matter of WHEN not IF it would happen? Hmm...I wonder.

        Regards,

        Sheryl

You can not calculate it this way, there are several factors to calculate Adsense earnings Traffic only one factor in this equation!
      So you've CPC , CTR ...

It depends on how many visitors you are getting to your site and how many people are clicking on the ads. you can't just measure how long it takes to make a certain amount of money.

ok thanks but i've seen it's easy to make $10 per days with 1000 visitors.
But for me i have a very low cpc, 1 to 3 cents per click.

$100/day with adsense can be easy with a bunch of image autoblogs. Just make sure to use social media for traffic and not organic SEO. Use a good CTR theme and definitely use the best sized ad which are the 336x280 ads. If you know how to set up the autoblogs properly, adsense will not ban you.

Despite the traffic it really depends how do you integrate the ads and combine them with your website design. Good ads placement can make you much more money than someone who has dozens of more daily visitors to the website.

You don't get paid for the traffic, you get paid for the clicks, so don't worry abuot the number, focus on the traffic source you are getting traffic from. You need more targetted traffic to increase your adsense earnings.

$100/day with Adsense... It was realistic 2 years ago! Now, when people start getting MORE than $10/day and they got banned... Happened to so many people! So, just play with a few cents-dollars per day and play WITHOUT breaking any rule!

    hi to everyone,

this fact depends on how responsive and fanatical are people forming your niche.. lets say people looking for info on how to make money online are very "aggressive" and willing to hit any banner, adsense ad block, or link in order to get their goal of making money...the same for weidht loss, dating niche..but i think with 200 unique visitors a day per site...it would be a good startup point to make a living off adsense.. just keep in mind that the fastest you attract the traffic...the more the revenues coming your way!!...just keep simple..first setup a site...get some traffic and test out..once you get the enough record or background on how to step in.. rinse and repeat with other sites!! regards mate and take care!!

I always found it a lot easier to buy my traffic via PPC to generate leads which I sell ... rather than building pages that attract a lot of traffic and monetising them via selling ad space.

    Both work tho

I know just a handful of people who are making decent money with AdSense. For the most part, people were trying this business model are not having success because of the stringent rules and policies Google imposes on these kind of websites.

I do remember someone was making around $4000 monthly with AdSense but he was getting around 1200 visitors per day to his website. Not sure what niche the website was in.
