Who is this "everyone" that told you that?

Alexa is a meaningless metric that counts for nothing.

Don't get bother of 'everyone' , the more you traffic get the better changes that you'll get alexa rank. Do some RSS submissions for quick action though.

You are better than Alexa in monitoring your blog traffic .

You should have a good Alexa traffic, Alexa traffic is a signal about how many people are visiting your blog, advertisers use Alexa to determine if they will advertise in your site or not).
Google uses Alexa traffic in his index, a real blogger should have Alxa toolbar installed in his browse to see his blog evolution.
Don't use unnatural methods to get better Alexa traffic, google will penalise your blog, and Alexa too, my advice: keep focusing on creating unique content and visitors will come later through Google, then Your Alexa traffic will be much better every week.

Nope. Its only a biased meaningless measure of how many people vist the site who have the Alexa toolbar installed in their browser!

      Absolute bullshit

I don't install spyware on my computer. Does that mean I am not a real blogger?.

Absolute bullshit. How does Google even know my traffic?

Why do people make this kind of stuff up for?

You maybe 100% correct assuming you don't have a website with massive traffic or do not know how to monetize it.
On the other hand over 400 new users who signed with us only this year, felt quite the opposite.

Actually I am not rely on Alexa traffic metrics because the traffic data provided by Alexa is not accurate and precise.
