source code validation - what does google do?

We just sent the source code of our main site through several online source code validation sites. Different programs offer different outputs. On most we do not have much input with the software we are using. But what does google really have an issue with and what does it do with certtain errors?

    I don't believe validation plays a huge role in rankings, but errors can certainly make it harder from spiders. For example, I've seen lots of pages that contained two header sections, or missing body tags, etc.
