Opinion On Sitemaps?

I have never found a reason NOT to submit a sitemap to google, although i never really understood how much it actually helps in terms of SEO? OR is it for a completely different reason?

What are the benefits of submitting a sitemap to google?

    It doesn't help your SEO rankings, but it generally helps Google find and crawl and hopefully index your pages. Submitting a sitemap brings Googlebot to your pages, and many have noticed it helps have your pages faster, though Google has explicitly stated that submitting a sitemap does not guarantee it and is merely a "suggestion to Google."

    Depends on what your trying to do, for instance, you'll be waiting all year If your trying to get a video thumbnail image in Google SERPs without an xml file.

    After I submitted a new clean sitemap I see pages disappearing out of the search results much faster then before (pages that I wanted to get rid off that are or maybe that's cause I fixed this silly mistake in my robots.txt lol, forgot to mention the user agent) so yeah I think it definitely helps to clean up sites and also helps getting all your pages indexed faster.

      Also, I have been using Fetch As Google lately and can for sure tell the difference In speed when It comes to Indexing.

      Webmaster tools Is pretty damn helpful
