Go to Google.com and search for "site:.edu/blog/"

You'll find 100,000+ results. Not all will be wordpress, you'll find wordpress though

    Please hit the thanks button

If you do it manually, type something like the following in google....

    Inurl:".edu" "create account"

    Or

    inurl:".edu" "leave comment"

The idea that .edu, or any extension, has some extra weight is a myth. Links from ".edu" sites were worth more only because, under the same PageRank algorithm that applies to all links, .edu sites tend to have lots of strong backlinks themselves because they're good resources.

If you're searching for .edu blogs to comment on for backlinks, you're going about the entire SEO process wrong, and you're going to waste years trying to beat the system instead of working with it.

I don't know Dan, you yourself said that .edu sites tend to have stronger backlinks, and thus stronger keyword authority.

I find link building efforts focusing on .edu sites that are relevant to be far more worthwhile due to the extra page rank and authority these domains are more likely to have.

Dan, you kind of contradicted yourself there. I don't believe you should spend all your efforts on just chasing edu backlinks but it is certainly a good thing to include them within your backlinking campaign.

A mixture of sources for backlinking is good SEO practice. Little by little, day by day.

After carefully and tediously searching for backlinks and then watching the results, I would have to agree with the post above that a little bit of everything overtime helps and not to focus on one particular thing, or just outsource the backlinking and don't worry about the .edu anyways

It's only a contradiction in your mind because you believe in such things as "backlinking campaigns". Building links isn't part of the site owner's job, building content/products/services that people want to link to is.

I have .edu links, I have #1 ranks for all my targeted phrases on Google, but it's because schools choose to link to my tutorials as resources and blogs choose to talk about my products because customers love them. Because my priorities are straight, and I'm not trying to manipulate search engines into ranking crummy sites highly, the search results follow automatically while I spend time on delivering what users want.

Hard to argue with that Dan G. SOlid points all around.

However; not everyone wants to make a career out of 2-3 niche products and spend all those hard hours driving traffic and ranking for a trendy product. Evergreen products are awesome if you make those. Not all IM's have the capacity/skillsets to do so.

So they need to do some "campaigns" for certain things.

That all being said - I recall a recent post from a .edu moderator here on the forum that advised many people to rethink their .edu backlink chasing plans - as the new school of mod/admins is wise to the tactic and taking rather draconian and pro-active steps to halt the PR bleed and the spam from .edu backlink miners.

In fact the OP mentioned it was a hot topic of discussion at either a symposium attended by many .edu webamasters or a webinar ... cant recall which.

The gist ... all those DoFollow .edu links being built will soon be nofollow or deleted ... its a problem. You run the same risk pretty much anywhere you backlink ... but not everyone will be so pro-actively out to counteract it.

        Food for thought ...
