Is it still relevant to track Google results position?

Hi,
I read in few articles that lately Google is giving more "dynamic" results based on lots of variables,

Is it really that critical and can change google results from person to person? for example, if I'm searching for a keyword in my computer, and 20 minutes after you'll search the same thing from your computer, are the results going to be the same?

Anyway, my boss likes to track our google position per keyword with weekly updates, what is the lowest cost option to provide him this information?
Also if theres a better way to track SEO progress, I'd love to hear about it (right now my budget limits me to free or very cheap solutions only).

Many thanks!

Rank Checker Ace This is free and does what it says on the tin. Also give daily email updates with historical tracking graphs

If you have few sites then you could also track (once a week for example) your keywords through hidemyass.com

You can check different datacenters from there as well as UK, US and NL.

^^ Surprised to see RankCheckerAce mentioned here. That's definitely the best free rank tracker available. Highly reliable, allows up to 1,000 keywords on the free plan I think. The results are generally the same person-to-person, although different parts of the world can change the results.

Use a keyword tracker. Around are few free options. Was using Moz's before, a bit expensive...but it was the best.

I would say so, lets me know I'm doing something right (or wrong).

I personally have been using Scrapebox Rank Tracker (premium plugin).

Works great, does what I need It to do.

Well you could rank a page very well but still be doing it completely wrong, i.e spamming your way to a G penalty..
