Hey folks, question for you all.

Will I have an SEO issue if I use a combination of letters & numbers when it comes to URL tracking and parameters?

Basically could we use letters & numbers for unique page identification or just use #'s?

If yes, do you have a URL source that I can read up on this? Vice versa? I'm looking online but I want to see if anyone here knows about that. Thanks!

Can anyone else help me out? Sorry if I'm getting all technical. Tired of basic questions. Time to get our brains working!

You can add an ID# to the URL, just keep it short.

This forum thread has a unique ID#.

I get that but what about adding a mix of #'s and letters?

Notice 868196? What if it was 86DX16?

I was looking around for sources on that aspect.

I DID notice however, that Amazon has that.

I think what your looking for is called SKU (stock keeping unit).

Does the place you work for use SKU to ID their products?

Not too sure if it has to do wtih SKU. Actually we haven't implemented URL tracking and parameters as of yet. We're still debating if it should just be #'s OR if we can put a mixture of both.

I've never seen any indication that adding a product ID number will hurt a ranked page, I don't think it's even close to being a problem.

Adding a product number + with a letter right?

I do not think that the tracking combination matters- whether it be a combination of numbers and letters or pure letters/number only. I have seen Clickbank allowing tracking IDs with a combination of numbers and letters (please see below):

Some notes you should bear in mind if you do not want to be penalized by these tracking codes are found in this link here:

Mixing the numbers and letters will be treated as string (name) and there should not be any issues using it but never tried it.
