Question about a PR5 domain

Hello folks,

I'm more than sure that some of you have more experience in this than I have, thus I'm looking for some information.

I discovered a very strong PR5 site (well actually domain, it doesn't have content anymore) that is being sold for $3000.

It has created in 2003 and never dropped since then. The domain name is pretty catchy (which is good), but more importantly, it has approx 200 referring domains from PR3-PR5 pages (including .gov , .edu).

All in all, it has very solid backlink profile. (DA 45, PA 55)

Why I'm interested in that domain is that I have a plan to create a niche site in the similar niche as the PR5 domain.

For example, the PR5 domain that is being sold was about something like:

"how to use emails", "how to browse on the internet", "how to use internet safely", "how to set up a site using HTML" etc.. In short, the basics about internet.

My "niche" site is going to talk about web design, web development etc.. So they are pretty much the same (I guess?)

Now here's my question: Is it worth buying it? Would Google pick it up and rank it well (since I'm in the same niche) or is it more or less like a fresh start without much benefit? I do think it gives a great benefit, but is that enough for $3k?

I'd say no its not worth it as far as I can see. $3,000 is PR6 territory. If it has branding value to you then thats up to you to decide but strictly as a PR5 and the links as you have described them its overpriced.

$3k sounds overpriced without any existing content/pages.

Have you checked the old internal pages/URLs to see if there's more/better PR pages than the home page?

Yeah, there's couple of PR5s and PR4s as well.

That makes it a little more valuable, but it is tough for any of us to advise you on this without knowing anything about the niche. It might be something that top rankings is going to net you $50k a month, in which case I would say that having a PR 5 domain on topic with some high PR internal pages is probably worth the investment.

On the other side of it though, you could buy 4-5 PR 5 domains at that price.

Do you know If the site gets targeted traffic, If so what's the monthly traffic count? I mean the whole point of SEO is to get more targeted traffic so If there's a decent amount of traffic already on the site that might help justify the high price. Personally I would expect the content to be included from what I've read so far.

Yeah, there's couple of PR5s and PR4s as well.
Is the PR on those pages from the home page or are they standing on their own (more external links with PR)?

There has to be more than just the home page being a PR5 for the $3K price tag.

Its a nice lot of strong root domains, given you have internal authority too. I've never paid that kind of money for a domain. But I'm only a beginner when it comes to owning my own sites. But I do see a lot of cushion in the link profile, to help cover my real network of keywords.
Natural they said....Hey big SPEEEENNDDDAAARR...Speeend...a little time with...meeeee....

As you have mentioned here that its just domain then I would say no. Because we don't know about the traffic on that domain. And $3k is too much price.

    • What is the majestic trust flow?

      Check out this article:

      It may help you decide.

Mike, Yukon, Kevin and Gyu - I think you will find the article good too. One of the better articles I've seen in 2013.

Bro not to burst your bubble, but that was one of the dumbest articles I read in 2013.

Trust flow a good indicator of search engine traffic, I mean isn't that obvious? Of course a sites that have strong backlinks are likely to have better organic traffic than sites that don't.

That's like saying "we did a study and concluded that women prefer men with money over men that were poor." (golf clap)

But the kicker was they supported it with SEMrush data, which is speculative and inconclusive at best.

        A for effort though.

It completes depends on what they are writing. I would better check each and every link of that website and then decide to buy! But 3k$ seems to be over priced!

Just check if you can see their Analytics and latest links coming from Webmasters. Ofcourse no one would be interested to sell a high PR and DA domain for any price.
Check with them whether they mind sharing the details from where exactly the links are coming from.

$3,000 for a PR5 backlink? Well if the visitors are A LOT or it's ranked #1 for GOOD keywords... Otherwise, you should NOT pay more than $1,000!
