Choosing the best domain name for SEO

I have done some research on keywords and available domain names for a business I'm going to try and startup. I've narrowed the domain name choice to two.

I won't give the exact domains/terms, but here is an example of what i'm looking at:

foreign visa - 9.9k avg. monthly searches - foreignvisa.com unavailable
foreign visas - 1.6k avg. monthly searches - foreignvisas.com = >$500 on sedo
foreign visa form - 1.9k avg. monthly searches - foreignvisaform.com unavailable
foreign visa forms - 140 avg. monthly searches - foreignvisaforms.com unregistered

So... the choice is between foreignvisas.com for $500 or more, or foreignvisaforms.com for the cost of registration.

Say the business i'm building offers users foreign visa forms, then foreignvisaforms.com is quite descriptive and attractive. Though foreignvisas.com is shorter, easier to read/remember, and pretty much as relevant.

Does the fact that the term "foreign visa forms" has only 140 searches make it a poor choice of domain? I definitely need all the help I can get in the search engines to get customer acquisition, so it's an important choice for me. I'd rather spend $500 in the short term if it helps me to grow more rapidly and get higher prominence in search engines. But then again, if it doesn't matter...

What would you do?

I would go with "foreign visa form" myself. You can still rank for foreign visa and it is included in your domain. That being said there is an argument that Exact Match Domains don't do so well any more.

However with the right content and SEO campaign you can rank for both.

You might want to do some research in "long-tail keyword optimization" it will give you a better understanding and you will be able to answer your own question plus hopefully pick up some more traffic in your niche too.

How about coming up with something creative for 9 lousy bucks?

What's funny, is that foreign visa thing. Kinda like saying an
armed gunman. I would imagine those wanting a visa are all
foreign...but that's exactly where this EMD nonsense ends up
being absurd. Coming to warriorforum.com to ask this question,
      no less.

I would go with the 2nd domain name. This keyword is not worth $500 to buy it according to me!

Get a easy to remember, brandable domain name. Beats 'SEO-optimized' domains any day.

Seriously, just go for brandability (no idea if there's such a word, but I hope you get the meaning

    Cheers,

If you are a little creative person, you can find good domain names according to your niche or business, one character difference is not going to make big difference in SEO.

If you really want to buy premium domain name then it should have the exact keywords with good searches, it should receives some type-in traffic, it should be aged.
