Search Engine Ranking

I have a new site about 2 months old and need a question answered about ranking. The site has been indexed on Yahoo and Google and has several 6 or higher PR backlinks to it. However, when I do a search with my keyword I don't find the site in the search. How long does it typically take to show up on a keyword search?

In as little as hours... Are you sure it appears nowhere? Maybe it appears but very low, which depends on the competition.

I went thru the first 15 pages. Is there a faster way of determining what page your on?

The easiest free way is setting 100 results per page in advanced search settings in Google. Then Ctrl+F and search for your domain. But if it's beyond page 10 it doesn't really matter, as long as it's indexed at all, just have to keep on working on it.

You could use Google Webmaster tools. However, I would only do that if you are desperate as I have seen some quite negative effects from Webmaster tools over all.

I understand trying to figure out these SE's is difficult, but I finally found my site on Yahoo @ #120. The wierd thing is I have 6-8 high PR backlinks in both search engines, indexed in both, but I'm not in the top 500 on Google. I guess I just have to be patient.

What is the domain name of your website?

I would be happy to take a few moments to evaluate it and see if I can identify any likely problems that could be causing your website to have trouble getting indexed properly by Google.

What do you mean by "several backlinks"?

    Hi tntebook,

You are looking at the wrong things, PR has very little influence on your SERP ranking. Spend some time studying SERP and you will notice that the results aren't ranked in order of PR.

Go get links from relevant pages that rank high for your targeted keyword. Use relevant terminology for the anchor text and add relevant links to your own pages. Focus on websites that have lots of targeted traffic that will find you page relevant to their interest.

As long as you're following the above advice you can safely ignore PR and do well.

I think I found a few reasons why your website currently not ranking well at search engines.

This is a snapshot that displays part of the output from a link spider analysis and header response status check of the homepage.

    • The area highlighted in yellows tells me that only page of your website that seems to allow search engine bots and spiders to crawl other pages, is the page with the sitemap.
    • It appears that your FAQ page has a problem with the way you are rewriting the URL for it.
    • I also noted problems with spaces in the URL that you may want to look into further.
I think you may have a problem with the way your website is rewriting URLS in general.

Below is the result of a basic evaluation for important internal search engine optimization factors.

It seems overall that the homepage of your website is relevant, but you may want to consider rewriting the meta description and using a few less keywords on the homepage.

    I hope this helps...

If you have any further questions, comments, and/or concerns; feel free to post them.

      Brett,
I sent you a PM but dis-regard. I really appreciate you taking the time to look at my site! Went through my meta tags and made several changes and now my relavancy is over 90%. How do I go about fixing the errors you mentioned in yellow and pink though?

  • If it's beyond page one it doesn't matter
