How much would you price this?

So, I came across a company who want me to do SEO for them. They are a fairly large company in the aluminum business.

They want me to get their site to rank #1 for some keywords. The keywords get volume of about 250-500 exact matches with a CPC of about $3.00, so I cant imagine they'd be ubber competitive.

How much would you offer this service to them for? please, serious suggestions only as I'm trying to figure out what the proper pricing should be.

    I'd be very reluctant to guarantee #1 for any search, with maybe the exception of their company name, but even then there is a good chance a large directory would outrank them.

    In terms of quoting a price for page 1, it would depend on where they are located (country), and the profitability of that industry. What is the average lifetime value of a new client for them?

    I'd come up with some pricing based on the number of keywords on page one at the end of each month. Maybe a range of $300 - $1000 per keyword, per month for best efforts with no guarantees.

    Your going to attempt to rank for keywords and you have no clue of the competition levels? I feel scared for that aluminium business.
