SEO URL Consolidation

Hey folks, so I'm helping a client out and one of the issues they have is that they have 3 different URL's all point of the same page.

For example

hellohello.com
hello-hello.com
hellobyhello.com

I'm sure it's important to just focus on one URL especially when it comes to obtaining links, indexed links, etc. However, I need to back it up with sources as far as why this can affect a site. I'm looking around through slideshare and Google at the moment. But if you guys have a source or remember this type of issue and have a bookmark page please let me know. It has to be a credible source not just WF. Thanks!

urls or domains? A tad bit of a difference there.

If it's domains, pick the one that's the best. Your research
would find that out. Then 301 the rest, or even take
them offline and do a server redirect.

The rest does not matter. SEO is after all, SEO.

SEO is not about feelings. Google has no feelings as to
what a domain is. If they did, man, zillow, kayak, ebay,
amazon, zap2it, go, trulia...etc...would be DOA.

Both actually. URL and Domain. I get that, but I need like "sources" to back up my points. I can't find any. I'll keep looking.

Why do you need sources? Aren't you the man in charge? If you need sources then it sounds like your client doesn't trust you very much...

If you're dealing with a half a billion dollar company, and you're going to change their WHOLE URL structure, shouldn't YOU have some type of source? Heck might even want an agency to back it up. I'm not Matt Cutts for one. And I'm no Frank Kern. And even then, I'd STILL make that EXTRA effort to have every data to back up my reasonings.

Just like your quote "There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs".

How about you go about with your quote?
Geez guy what crawled up your @rse this morning?

I'd expect that a billion dollar company would put someone in charge that actually knows what the heck they're doing. Not someone running to internet forums looking for "sources". But hey, these days everyone and their cat runs a billion dollar SEO company and considers themselves an "expert".

If they placed YOU in charge then YOU should be the source, based on YOUR knowledge and experience. H*ll that should've been a pre-requisite to being hired.

I wasn't trying to start something with you btw, but since you like my sig so much you should probably read it a few more times and let that sink in. You either know what you're doing or you don't, and if you don't then move over and let the tech team or someone else take the wheel. Best of luck with your sources.

That's the thing, I wasn't trolling. You took it that way and jumped off the cliff. Like you said I don't know your situation which is why I asked whether or not your client trusts you as an SEO. Which is the reason I figured you needed sources despite you already knowing the correct thing to do. That's a logical and valid assumption. If you said yes then I would advise you to steer clear, it's a sign of a toxic relationship. Next time you think i'm trolling you i'd also appreciate a PM before you go flying off the handle. My apologies if you felt that was unwarranted.

I get all that, but what I'm asking is just for sources. Sure we can say all this, but I need sources/ case studies etc.

All good I figured it out.
