Going WIDE with keyword research ?

What tools have some of you used to generate "wide" keyword research. Maybe I am not asking the question correctly so here is an exaample. I want to get a list of the most searched for Artists. I thought using Google keyword tool and the keyword "popular artists" may be intelligent enough to list some highly searched artists. Of course Google would have to be tied into some artist database to perform such search results.
Any tools out there that might have this capability to generate more specific search results based on a more broad general term ?
