how long does it take for a backlink to show up from say an article directory?

It is really hard to say. The reason is because it varies from site to site and from backlink to backlink. I would say that in general you are going to have to wait at least a few days for a backlink to be indexed.

I've found that it actually takes much longer for most links in my most recent link building campaign. An article directory with decent PR and some authority (ex. EZA) will probably index you backlinks a little faster but it still isn't going to be lightning fast for the most part.

As with many things that go into internet marketing you need to have some patience with link building and SEO, which I'm assuming you are doing.

    Hope I could help.

Well, an article published on EZA gets indexed in Google in a matter of a few hours. I guess when the article is indexed, the backlink is indexed as well. So I don't think it's going to take days for EZA backlinks to get indexed.

Of course other article directories with lower PR will get less frequently indexed and it's gonna take longer...

A page being indexed is does NOT mean the link is indexed.

If by showing up you mean actually being indexed by a search engine, it should happen within hours or maybe a few days. But if you mean; you're using some tool to check your backlinks and you're asking when that will show up, it might never show up. Backlink checking tools, even Google's, don't work perfectly. In my experience, they don't work at all.

Yep, this is exactly right. The links are "seen" by the Search Engines LONG before they ever show up in a tool. And the tools show different links at different times. From day to day, they can show different results. They are not very accurate and often take up to three months to show backlinks.

You can use them to assess the competition. I do the same thing. Just be aware that they will probably not show ALL the backlinks.

Listen to Angela. Take notes. Aspire to someday be just like her. Stalk her maybe. KIDDING!

Seriously, she knows what she's talking about on this particular issue.
