I do not like the keyword planner tool. Is there a good alternative?

There are a few paid ones but not any free that spring to mind...

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

I doubt there are! As most of the paid tools still getting the data from GKP.

I just wanna tell you that most of the links in the signature are trash and/or a trap to make you pay!

You can use Google Webmaster Tools,WordTracker, WordStream, SEMRush etc. They are best alternative of keyword planner.

Wordtracker is an alternative, but the free version gives you limited results. Most tools actually pull data from Google database, so better get used to Google keyword planner.

Keyword Planner coupled with Market Samurai works well. First I conduct research on K-planner and then check them on MS.

I would say wordstream is best I have ever seen after google keyword tool and now better than the keyword planner by google. Complete and accurate analysis and accuracy is great.

GKP is a downgrade from GKT... planner places a greater focus on adwords than did the tool and as such does give the kind of results that one would previously get from the GKT.

I have experimented with it and the results are way different for the two of them

I find them much more harder to operate and different results when comes to certain long tails...

Call me old fashioned but I'D MUCH PREFER the old version, "G" claims that its geo targeted and better results ... BLAH BLAH BLAH ... I just find the old version much more user friendly.

Does anyone know of any free keyword or phrase tools besides SEM RUSH ? I haven't taken the time to really get into sem rush .. MAYBE I should... Is it the closest app to determining which phrases or words to go after?? And if so, Should I buy the SEM RUSH or use the free version?

          Thanks for your time

Wow. Really no good advice in this thread.

All of the tools people have suggested (and judging by their writing, probably haven't ever tried) all get their data from the Keyword Planner.

The tool's are useful because they can help you interpret that data. So as inaccurate at the tool may be, it's info straight from the horse's mouth.

I prefer KP, but that's after I figured it out.

Perhaps someone should make a "how-to" use KP?

I like to perform my keyword research away from the planner but then use the keyword planner to get traffic volume related to the terms I feed it.

I use a number of methods to perform my keyword research.

I will use related terms given by google towards the bottom of the search results for my seed keywords.

I will use suggested data given by the major search engines using one of my own tools (see signature link)

I will even visit competitor sites, view the names of categories, see what anchor texts are being used Onsite for internal links and outbound links.

I then feed everything to google and get the search volume.
