Starting a forum from zero followers

I want to start a forum from zero followers - these are the two solutions i have found and want your advice or additional solutions:

- forum generator software: i found software that generates the content for you extracting it from yahoo answers and quaro websites -

Question: Doesn't extracting content from those sites count as duplicate content? I would not think this would work anymore?

The other solution is to make a couple accounts myself and literally talk to myself everyday lol but this is a seriously long and slow process which might not even work...

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Both approaches seem pretty lame to me and I'm sure people will see through it.

What you need to do is provide information on your forum in the shape of pre-written posts written in a conversational way so that it attracts discussions.

I'm registered to some paid forums and they do it exactly like that.

Find those forum promotion sites and submit your forum, build it from there, keep the current members happy and also keep promoting for new sign ups, do it slow and steady, it's a bad idea to generate content automatically as it will lost the feel of a community.

    thanks guys,

I was thinking of getting a few like minded people on there, and we discuss things there rather than facebook or something, even if its just a handful of us, maybe that will be better than using already made content which probably is not dense enough information in the first place.

Thanks i will see what I can do....

I wish it was that simple :-)

Yes, it will definitely be counted as duplicate content.

My advice would be to hire a couple of moderators, of them to write some really good quality content, get visitor feedback, find a way to retain visitors and get them to contribute and you will be on your way to creating a good farm.

This does however seem to be a long-term proposition. I would suggest giving it at least one year to pan out.

My advice, start a blog, write articles about what people would be likely to talk about on your forum. Build your list, site, content. After 6 months of doing that you should have a large following or some following! then launch your forum! Think it will be a lot easier that way.

You need some type of memberbase to start a successful forum. Rehashing forum content from answers or another website and it isn't gonna build a community.

I would find a few members to help you get started, maybe something as simple as an email to people in the forum niche could go a long way.

Every startup forum needs discussion content fill-up, and then you start seeing real people registering and participating in discussions. I'd suggest hire forum posters and let them fill up your forum to show some activity.
