Concerned about site ranking

So I've done my keyword research in longtail pro and I've discovered what I believe is a quality niche. Most of the sites on the top 10 are small niche sites or tiny ecommerce sites with low authority.

So I've been building out my site in a standard silo. When I first post my article, my page ranks on page 5ish for my keyword for about a day. Afterwards, no where to be seen. My site is only two weeks old, is that the reason? Will my rankings come back?

Did you build any links at all?

If no, then the rankings probably won't last.

Even if you start the link building today, it will take you 2-3 months to hit page 1 AND stay there.

About 20 links that mostly aren't indexed

If the links aren't indexed, then they aren't counted either. You have to get the links indexed, that's top priority. You'll probably need to allocate some funds toward link building as well. Handling all of your off-site SEO can be a lot to juggle.

Its too early to say for sure, but I don't like the sound of "a standard silo"

If you have actually silo'd the site, you need a minimum of 3 silos - preferably 5 or more - and a minimum of 5 articles/posts in each silo

Yes, the wordpress theme is custom to work with the plugin. There is no theme/link bleeding except for the mandatory pages which only appear on the homepage, and some affiliate links on the support articles.

I guess it isn't properly siloed yet, I haven't built out much theme at all within the silos, not sure why I mentioned it other than that it is a long term plan of mine.

Right now I have 30 landing pages/categories/Silos but only a few of them have more than a single article on the third tier. I planned on this being a huge project of mine(200+ articles when its finished). Now that I have the landing pages built, I'm going to be adding theme to the landing pages with at least 5 articles each...but I thought I would see more rankings at this point...so I'm worried about ROI.

You sound like you might know a thing or two about what you are talking about. Was this the right approach by me, or should I have built out each silo one at a time? This won't negatively effect my rankings long term will it? The reason why I built the landing pages first is because it is a broad niche and I wanted to at least get up some initial articles to make my site reflect that.

      Thanks!

I didn't put 2 and 2 together until a few minutes ago - you know me better as WebDev

I've replied on the other forum (said I'd check your site for problems) but you can PM me here (I think I may have enough posts to PM) or you can email me - you know the email address
