That's funny. Why would google+ be going anywhere?

Google+ is fully entrenched. Silly question.

Google+ is entwined with everything google makes.

And what's even more inane, is that google+ is rapidly
becoming the standard for social share.

    Here's a better question:

How long until google maps goes the way of google reader?
    You like that one?

Google reader was retired for the same reason companies
    stopped making VHS recorders.

One thing that does have me concerned is Feedburner, I still have a few thousand email list for two domains hosted on Feedburner.

I noticed the new Google landing page after signing into a Google account has links to all their products except Feedburner, might be a warning sign for Feedburner users. They've already removed Adsense from Feedburner.

Honest question Yukon, you have been going on an on about people ranking videos on youtube because you are ranking a video on a property that you dont own, BUT you make the mistake to collect your email addresses via Feedburner? Why do you think that was a good idea? you have ZERo control over them.

That's not correct about zero control over my Feedburner list.

Those list were started years ago & monetized Adsense directly inside of every single email I sent out, which all I had to do was change dates on evergreen web pages back on my own sites. I turned the money/traffic flow on every few days like clockwork & did that for a few years.

Running something like Aweber would never allow money to be made with Adsense inside of emails while following Adsense TOS.

Google eventually stopped allowing Adsense inside anything related to Feedburner, so I still have those email list. I still get traffic boost from those email list anytime I update a page or create a new page on my sites. I'll ride that out until Google pulls the plug on Feedburner because all my old subscribers would have to signup through another email source like Aweber. If the day ever comes that Google does pull the plug on Feedburner I still have all my Feedburner subscribers emails in CSV backup files on my offline PC.

For the record I don't have a problem with anyone ranking a Youtube video in Google SERPs If they're monetizing directly on the Youtube video page, that's their money page (Youtube/Adsense). My gripe is don't rank pages that aren't money pages, a lot of folks rank Youtube videos in Google SERPs then try to force traffic back to a self hosted money page when they should be ranking the money page to begin with instead of forcing traffic to jump through hoops & losing traffic to Youtube sidebar competition..

Yes, but remember this, when you are transfering your email addresses to another system even if you click the option of "DO NOT ASK TO CONFIRM" they make them confirm the suscription and you will easily lose more than 50% of those addresses, this is a very important detail, that is why I think that chosing where to host your email list is one of the most important desicions you will make in this business, and yes... I learned it the hard way.

That's why I haven't moved any Feedburner email list to something like Aweber. I checked into that a while back, I was going to move the list until I found out about subscribers needing to resubscribe on a new platform.

If Google ever decided to drop Feedburner I would hammer out a new blog post every single day for a month telling my subscribers they need to signup under a new email list host. At least it would filter out any dead emails on the current list.

Anyways, Feedburner email list have served me well.

    Not gonna happen.

G+ is an intrinsic part of search now, what with authorship and trust playing a much larger role in how Google works now.

Plus, it's better than FB, IMHO

In case you missed it, YouTube comments are now powered by Google+. Or at least heavily tied to it. I can't really see Google+ going anywhere at this point. They've invested too much to it, and tied too many systems to it.

Unlike their other attempts at social media, Google went all in with Google+.

I can't see it reaching the heights of Facebook anytime soon, but it is not going anywhere.

really? is that because of your niche? From what I can tell only bloggers / social media / internet marketing people make much use of it.

Did anyone notice the failed Google Friend Connect automatically converted all those users over to G+ accounts? I guess they tried to save a ghost town.

Google will always want it's own social network, so why should they shut down Google+ as it's serving that purpose. Most people mistake Google+ as a Facebook clone when it's real purpose is different, so they are not direct competitors.

...because their track record sucks for social products.

Not that I think G+ is going anywhere.

The difference with G+ compared to the list of Google social failures is, G+ has been integrated into the search results. Still, G+ doesn't have anything to do with ranking pages, it's more like a participation trophy for a little league team, all you have to do is show up.

It's a little different. Instead of handing out a trophy, they stuff it down your throat whether you wanted it or not.

I see IM people get all exited about their profile image on the SERPs, lol. What they don't know is they could have an image twice the size of that corny G+ profile image in the SERPs (any image they want, per page).

    Google+ isn't going anywhere.

The biggest problem Google+ faces is "none of my friends are on Google+"

I believe Google+ is thinking about long-term and functions such as hangouts and YouTube integration will be targeting a new, younger generation and they'll try to get them in mass before they join Facebook. The only reason they'll be joining Facebook is because their aunts, uncles or parents are on it...

If Google+ can get into education by hangouts between countries (instead of doing physical student exchanges) and educational hangouts such as the Google glass Hadron Collider tour (Explorer Story: Andrew Vanden Heuvel [through Google Glass] - YouTube).

By doing this they'll reach that new generation and kill Facebook.

Google+ isn't going anywhere. And if you look at the number of services tied to G+, you'll understand why:
    Google Hangouts
    YouTube
    Google Reviews
    to name a few...
