SEO Help Needed

Hey guys, need some help on helping a local pizzeria with their marketing?

So how can I help them with SEO and local SEO?

I checked his site and its not a wordpress website?

He wants to interview me, so I need some guidance on how to help this pizza place out with seo, local seo, etc.

    Why in the world should it be a Wordpress site? It's probably better off that its not.

    So forgetting the fact that apparently you are going to go ask this guy to pay you to do something you don't know how to do

    Why SEO? It's a pizza joint. Unless you live in a very transient area (like somewhere with a military base nearby) where people are moving in and out of the area very frequently, they are probably wasting their money paying for SEO. People are not searching for pizza joints very often in Google. They are searching for a specific pizza joint that they want the phone number for.

    They need branding. The money would be better spent on print ads, mailers to local residents, TV, and/or radio spots. They should also look at social media. Really just Facebook. Building up their presence on Facebook will bring in far more business than anything you can do SEO-wise.

      I am new here but dang! jack of all trades huh. Guy in this day and age Udemy is prob the best thing for you. Remember this is key though when you deliver your info to him make sure and charge the client the $9.00 you paid for the course you took on Demy kidding kidding, no scratch that he makes Pizzia not Jabroni pies, Just do him a solid and refer him let him pay you in Pizzia, i mean who does not like pizzia .

    Totally agree with Mike, a food like this need branding not seo, you can actually compare this to Hersey's and Cadbury Chocolates. because of the branding they are the ones who shows in search results. they don't acually needed an seo to place them on top because they are already known because of their brands.

        Stop wasting your clients time. You have no idea what you are doing. There is nothing wrong with being a beginner in the SEO World, but you shouldn't be offering SEO services at this point in the game.

        There's really no such thing as white hat seo lolol... the only white hat you can get is On Page Optimization... i hope your not telling your client that white hat backlinks exist

    before the interview check with other local pizzerias that do have websites and confirm they would do a link exchange obviously you would want to set up an abc style linking system in addition you can check with other restaurants in his area....

    The only way I could see a blog being helpful for a pizza shop is If they do catering, they could brag about clients/gigs (portfolio).

    You could blog about menu specials (deals) but that might be very limited depending on the size of the menu & how often they actually have new pizza deals.

      You're trying, but I would say even that is a stretch. You can just create a page titled 'Specials' or put a ad on the front page of the site mentioning them.

      The catering thing maybe, but you could also just have a catering page that includes a few reviews from past customers.

      I would argue that Facebook is a much better medium to share those things.

        It all depends on If the pages are being optimized for additional keywords (longtails) If they bring in more traffic.

        Personally I would never make a portfolio a single page, even If I only ever had two clients, it would still be 3 pages (links page + individual client page). It's better user experience (IMO) & free pages optimized for specific keywords.

        The downside for something like a pizza business is odds are they would quickly give up on updating the site, doubtful they would dedicate an employee for updating content on the web. I would be surprised If a pizza business even updated a Facebook or any other social page long term. I still think they could benefit from extra pages If they had a source of content, really it's no different than any other site as far as SEO goes, no point in only ranking a single web page. Note, I'm not suggesting to blog for the heck of it, there has to be a goal.

        I'm a video fan, video alone could be low budget (still decent quality) commercials/advertising (possibly a slideshow menu) for a pizza business with additional internal pages ranked with video thumbnail images. Easy work for the SEO, higher SERP CTR for the pizza business (or whatever business).

    Lol don't even offer SEO help until you've succeeded at it for yourself.

    just blast the main website with thousands of crappy backlinks, and have 50% of the anchor text be the money keyword you're aiming for. many people will scream and cry and go "oh but sanf0rd that'll sandbox the site!!!!".... no.

    if the site is aged, established, and has some authority, spam backlinks will work wonders. i've tried it on lots of other people's sites and it has worked wonderfully. for example, i've blasted asdf*dot*com and blankwebsite*dot*com (these websites are gibberish blank pages), and i got them ranked for the keywords i was aiming for simply by including high % of money keyword in the anchor text in the spammy backlinks.

    of course if the site is new, then take link velocity into consideration.. then don't go all 50k+ backlinks gungho in one day like i did.

      I dunno know about Seo being no good for a pizza place. Keyword research indicates people DO search for pizza places and quite frequently depending on the city. Blog? not entirely out of the question but it would have to be community centered so that would have to be something they are already into.

      Just seo as a strategy - nah. Part of a mix. Sure. based on the research for whatever city we are talking about

    Zach, can you check the site SEO yourself? If not, you should really get a partner for this kid of a gig.

    I think MikeFriedman's comment early in the thread was spot on. I can find most of the pizza places around here by searching for "pizza [suburb name]". Our favorite happens to be on the #1 spot, but the real reason to use them is that we like the staff.

    I suggest you create a Google Plus profile page and Facebook page for the business, fill the profiles with good content, images and reviews, and then worry about the SEO side of things later.

    So long as the web pages are reasonably well optimized for the target search term (eg. pizza restaurants locationname), and you get a few decent backlinks, that will be probably all you need unless your client lives in a big city like New York

    If you are thinking to sell your SEO services then first analyze their website, check their backlinks and after this analyze their competitors.
    First do On page SEO work for their website so that you don't need to pay more efforts in On page SEO for your client.
    After the completion of On page SEO; move to Off page SEO and do work in link building according to Penguin 2.1 and hummingbird. So that in future Google don't have any reason to hit your client website.
    Promote the website on social media website for the marketing of the brand and services.
    Keep updated your social media sites time to time.

    If you are going to sell the product in specific reason than you should target tv, news paper, radio and ads on local popular sites. it is good if you optimize your page by adding actionable content, reviews, Party Pics, Events Pics. It will help you more to attract visitors . Focus on Branding.

      Any type of marketing is viable if the ROI is there.

      In the case of the Pizza joint, SEO is just fine and will help.

      They won't need ongoing SEO. They just need citations built and a review acquisition program. Maybe some initial on-page SEO. One time cost only so that they will see a return on it.

      What MikeFriedman said about Facebook marketing is true. Really all they need to do is have a current Facebook page and optimize the place for check ins and have an updated post each week so people know they're still alive.

      Very minimal things for them to do on a low budget. Should help them out quite a bit but I don't know where your piece of the pie would come from.
