When your rankings drop..

When your rankings disappear, what do you do to get them back?

Do you continue using the same methods, in the hope you can get them back, or do you move onto your next project.

I guess I'm a little worried at the moment as a lot of my ranked sites have vanished from top 10 pages over the recent month.

Is that I need to keep agressively building links, or switch to a progressive
few per week?

Never happened to me. But, if you have done an agressive links building I think you should switch to a progressive one.

Dunno, you probably need to analyze your activities closely to see whether you crossed the line somewhere. Also, checking whether all your previous links are live might reveal things.
After you have carefully thought of what might have gone wrong with your strategy, you could switch part of the methods used for something different and see if it works. Anyway, I think there's no reason why you should give up.

P.S. Congrats on your having quit smoking, just make sure you keep the resistance effort up

Ive had a domain penalised before for building to aggressively , it went to page 12 and never came back so i gave up and reformed the site on another aged domain instead.

Progressive with High quality related backlinks would be the route id take, Get some authority sites to link to you in your niche and you should see some level out

I just had a site go from #1 to #91. Sucks

On Google anyway, the other engines are making up for though. Google might be #1 but MSN and Yahoo can still bring in good traffic#'s. Don't give up on your projects just cause Google drops you.

      Hi Mclintst,

I don't think anyone knows all the answers as to why a site gets penalized or looses its SERPs.

But my own experience and my opinion, is one that consistency rules. If you can stay consistent as to how you build links, add content, etc., Google seems to approve. It doesn't necessarily how aggressive you are so long as you stay consistently aggressive.

Find your own process and keep tweaking it. What you failed on this time will add knowledge to the next campaign.

      SEO is one of persistence.

your ranking just drop? but not banned? If your SERP drops down, that's natural. Its like wheel, sometimes you're up sometimes you're down. You just need to take good care of it. Just keep it up, or keep it even better.

But If your site was banned. I think there's nothing you can do about it

It was my own fault, I was a fan of SEO until I started a new project, since then SEO didn't even fit in my schedule.

But I always do get my links out there even when I'm not planning on it, they obviously just aren't enough in comparison to what I used to build.

I guess, may 500 directory submissions in one day might all have been approved by now too giving a very temporary but very big boost in the number of links over a short period of time.

Time to break those up into bundles of 20 me thinks.

Another thing is Angela's links, I pay for them (since January) but haven;t used them..

      Does anyone use them?

i tried Angela's links for a couple of months and did not see any real improvements with my ranking. But i maybe just a little impatient lol! I have also experienced dropping from the serps and it sucks, but it will eventually comeback.

As the exact reason for drop in ranking could not be traced, so one should change seo strategy. Over optimization of a site could also be the reason for it. Close analysis of site and yes, quality backlinks from theme related sites will help a lot.
Offpage activities including submissions to directories, should be done regularly and avoid submiting in bulk.
    hope for the best!

sometimes google is just shuffling the serps - you might be ok. i've had sites dropped only to re-appear higher than ever after a month or two!
