Hi all,

Thanks, but that's not what I meant.
Question is whether Google prefers a post that has a YouTube video in it or not.
Not how it improves conversion rates or other matters.

If you transcribe the vocal element, then yes, probably.

Google really has no idea what the contents of your video are, much like a flash object.

BTW, if you're more worried about what "Google prefers", rather than focusing on conversion rates, then you're concerning yourself with the wrong metrics.

Google can certainly get a good idea of what a video is about. Automatic captions like the link above. Plus you've got the title, description, and tags of the video. Even if that video is embedded on a page, as long as it's linked to YouTube they have a ton of information to determine relevancy.

It appears that Google likes video. And especially likes YouTube videos. And that they are rewarding sites that use video with better rankings. You can use schema to tell Google details about the video and potentially get an enhanced listing in the SERP where the video thumbnail appears next to your post. This can really help with clickthrough and give you better results than sites that rank even higher, that don't have such listings.

So yes, I think video helps improve search rankings. That's based upon my own experience and testing.

Video does nothing for ranking pages.

The video thumbnail image you see in Google SERPs simply attach to a SERP description/listing regardless of where the web page is ranked in the SERPs. You can have a video thumbnail image attached to a page at SERP position #100 or SERP position #1, doesn't matter.

What matters is when you have a video thumbnail image on a SERP that doesn't have any other video thumbnail images from competition, that helps increase CTR. Never rank a Youtube video/page in Google SERPs, that's just junking up the SERPs & taking a SERP position where your money page could be ranked.
