I have had a new site set up with 5 pages and 5 blog posts. All the pages are showing they are indexed and my blog posts are ranking on page 1 and 2 of Google which is great.

Although my homepage just isn't ranking but there is "VERY" low competition, I have got experience in ranking sites but this has got me totally bamboozled!

All 100% unique content with an EMD domain name with the homepage well optimized. I am going to be adding more content but it's been around 2 months now and the homepage wont rank anywhere.

Iv been sending Google my sitemap too. It's definitely indexed and I know from experience that this kind of competition is a walk in the park.

    Do you have your posts on the homepage? Like recent posts in full length..that text would be seen a duplicate as each post would have its own url with the same content. Need to set the posts showing on homepage to no index. But then you lose their rankings.

      No, the homepage is a 1200 word article linking out to high authority sites, well optimized images and so on.

      This has never happened to me before, it's really, really weird lol

      Any thoughts?

    If it's an EMD & the index page is targeting the same EMD keyword Google might be considering the page over optimized. Change the page title on the index page & remove the keyword from any heading tags, point internal links at the index page with keyword anchor-text, see If that helps (can't hurt).

    What's the Google cache date for the index page?

      Yeah that could be it, the keyword is " 5 words long" non of the sites in the top 10 have the "exact" keyword in there title.

      I did use the keyword in the H1 and H2 tags. Should I use part of the keyword in the H1 or completely change it?

      11th of December, so fairly recently, what do you think?
