Hostgator Baby Plan - does shared IP effect PR

Does anyone have any experiences with a Hostgator Baby account or similar where you can have unlimited domains hosted, but all the domains are actually implemented as subdirectories under a parent directory and hosted under one IP address. If you have a nice PR domain, would it make sense to host it under this type of situation and would it leak PR because of not being on its own unique IP address? Anyone have experience with this? If so, what would be the better solution?

I have heard like you have that it has an effect on rankings. I can tell you that I am using a shared plan now and I can get my websites ranked quite easily.

I have never had a problem with shared hosting.

  • I use shared hosting and sometimes I have issues ranking, other times I don't. I don't think it has anything to do with the IP or hosting.

you shouldn't have issues ranking a domain due to the shared IP address, but I have heard that you can't create your own backlinks on your own domains that share the same hosting. Google will note the same IP address and not give the same weight to the links.

No, IP address do not affect SEO. This is a bogus myth. Search engines have already stated that the IP does not matter.

However, Hostgator is an overloaded (ie slow) host. And search engines do take site speed into consideration. In other words, get a better host.

PR has nothing to do with hosting or an IP address.

PageRank is based on incoming links. NOTHING else.

No it won't effect (affect? I can never remember) PR, PR is page rank...not IP rank.

So it might go to a shared IP to fetch the PAGE but at the end of the day, it's the page (ie. index.html or the root domain or website.com/thispage) that holds the PR.

As kpmedia said, get off hostgator they are garbage. I am still trying to get my money back from them. I switched to Stable Host (I have no affiliation with them a part from being a customer) and they have been amazing.

    Hope that helps!
