Will google pick up the backlink in this widget/plugin?

I wrote a mortgage calculator plugin and want to use it to get backlinks from sites that use it, but I am worried the back link won't get picked up by google. It is embedded in the top of the control on the left in the 'EZ Mortgage Calculator' header. When I view source I only see the javascript tag though.

Anyone know if this will get picked up by google, or do I need to include it outside the javascript? Link is below:

hxxp://www.ezmortgagecalc.com/mortgagecalculatorwidget.php

Thanks for any input.

That's because the Full cache is a backup of the original page, it runs javascript.

Never count on Google indexing javascript. Javascript links can be coded a hundred different ways. If you don't see a link on a Google Cache (text version) don't expect it to be crawled.

Google has just recently announced that this sort of link violates its policies. So you should either not include such links in your plugins and themes at all, or you should nofollow those links, so that they do not pass PageRank to your own website.

So what is the benefit of writing widgets if the author can't drive any traffic back to their site from either the link itself or a possible increase in SERP results? I can't put ads on it. Well I could, but I am sure that would definitely violate their policy.

Yeah but gaining links in exchange for something of value, for the purpose of gaming SERPs is also against Google webmaster guidelines. And most of the time the webmaster who installs these plugins/widgets is not aware that it comes with embedded links to begin with so.

If people who wrote plugins couldn't get any credit who would write them? Whether it benefits SEO is one thing, but the backlink can bring people who wrote the tools some traffic also. Ever have a contractor work on your house and ask to put a sign in your yard, or websites that have the developers info somewhere on the page, which they normally give you a discount on the work to do.

As far as the webmasters, you do realize with javascript plugins like this, the script is still hitting my server to render the tool and to do the calculations, etc? This isn't something downloaded and completely independent. They are using bandwidth and resources on my server. This allows us to maintain, make improvements, etc without requiring webmasters to download and install changes or fixes periodically.

We will be adding a notice that there will be a link back to our site in the header of the tool. Every webmaster can make their own decision, but with a two line change to their website, they can have a very nice tool on their site and remove it at anytime also.

Widget backlinks are now being frowned on by Google. Even if Google can pick up the backlink, it won't actually be worth very much in terms of SEO benefit.

Curious why google wouldn't like them. If someone makes a tool and publishes it, which relates directly to the site they are linking back to, that should be an endorsement of the site itself. Sure, it shouldn't link back to something completely unrelated, but if 1000 sites use my plugin, and it is a subset of the features on my actual site, those 1000 backlinks should count because they like the widget enough to use it on their site.
