No follow links, count ot not count for SERPs.

I assume the question has been asked manytimes, but I still hear a lot of devided opinions. Please make it clear for me...

I know Google officially says links with nofollow tag do not count at all for SERPS. (They say they still index the site if it had not been though).

How Google, Yahoo & Ask.com Treat the No Follow Link Attribute

My question is, should I trust what Google says?

I hear some people say "Google says they don't count no follow links, but it still helps SERPs." But I have never seen actual experiment results or things like that.

Do they count, or do they not count?
If possible from your experience or experiment?

Thanks

Those google boys are talking bull#$%

Write a new article, make it live on your site, and go leave your link at a no follow site like answers.yahoo.com. I guarantee your that it will be indexed within a day with google.

I also use this method and it works! Google only says that because they don't want to encourage spammers

I agree with what Saidar is saying, what Google says and what Google actually does in this area seems to be at odds.

My observation is that if the nofollow link is from a trusted site, like Yahoo Answers or Wikipedia, that it seems to be counted for indexing and even results placement but not for toolbar PR calculations. Nofollow links from lesser sites generally aren't followed by the 'bot or officially counted at all but there seem to be occasional exceptions there as well.

I believe what you are saying is "noindex" and NOT nofollow.
Yes, you will still get indexed unless you put a "noindex" in your meta tag.
nofollow simply means that google does not give credit to the URL that the link is linking to. It also does not pass pagerank and thus no benefit to the linked target.

    Thanks guys!

    Just to clarify.

Google says that they index the site linked from nofollow links.
They say they don't take them into considaration for PR and SERPs.

So, getting indexed through noindex links makes sense even by Google official comments.

    Tummer, exactly!

Some people still say that no follow links still helps for SERPs.
(And they know Google's official comments on this)

    That's what I'm wondering about...
