Ads on homepage affect rankings shock

I have this site I use to play a little game with Google: it ranks around no. 5 on page 1 for it's main keyword. So I want to make money from it, obviously. So I put an ad on the homepage (below the fold, I might add, a comparison shopping widget) and the ranking slumps a few pages. I take the ad off and it pops back up to page 1, I put the ad back on, same thing happens, it slumps down a few pages, I take it off again, same thing happens: back up to no. 5 on page 1.
(the middle two slumps I count as the same one)
I do NO other SEO on this site, or add any content in this period.
