What does Keyword Type: Broad after importing keywords into excel mean. I was under the impression that all keywords were exact match?

The number of searches is estimated presuming the search is for an exact match keyword.
Other stats (CPC, etc.) can be estimated for broad, exact, and phrase match.

      Hi maelztorm,

The Keyword Planner tool is design for AdWords advertisers, as such the tool allows you to export a list of keywords in any of the following formats:
      • [Exact Match] - this format triggers ad impressions for searches of the exact term only.
      • "Phrase Match" - this format will trigger ad impressions for any search term that includes the exact phrase.
      • Broad Match - this format will trigger ad impressions for terms that include all of the terms in the keyword, as well as similar and related keywords.

The keyword type "Broad" will export the list of keywords that are not wrapped in quotes or brackets. If you select Phrase Match the list will export your select keywords wrapped in quotes, and the Exact Match type will wrap your keywords in brackets.

If you experiment with the different settings you will see that the tool will simply export the list of keywords in the match type format you select. It has nothing to do with the associated data. All of the data is based on the actual search result data for the exact terms listed.
