Silly question I know, but I was looking into what makes one page convert better than another. So I started to wonder what is the best converting landing page ever? Kinda subjective, but I'm hoping to find some good ideas

Your question is too general... Are you referring to landing page for product or for adsense?

    What is your niche?
Are you running a blog? a forum? or what?

My data comes from Adwords campaigns but I've seen well over 50% for a free software download. Also many others in that range (25 to 67%) but with low traffic, a handful of conversions for a handful of visitors. One of highest for a physical product converts 16% (44 visitors) and another over 10% for hundreds of visitors. Many other such low traffic pages with conversions in the 10-25% range, subscription and digital product sites but also many physical products. It depends on what you are selling and how well you present your message. Also on how you attract those visitors, whether using PPC or SEO, what you say in your ad will affect your conversion.

67% is really good, what type of product was it?

I have a client selling aquarium supplies that I manage his Adwords campaign for. There's one relatively new campaign with one click and one sale for a water filter. Cost: $0.04. Poor CTR on it however so I've got to work on that. There's a few other products with high CTRs, many of them the bags and filter media as well as water conditioners and additives.

The one thing all high conversion pages I manage have is that the keywords used are specific to the model. So if the keyword is "2002 ford mustang brake pads" and the click lands on a page selling just that, the conversion is usually high, more often than not over ten percent.

i had an optin page that when you landed in it you were asked to register for free for a niche site (name, e-mail, password). it had a great video on that landing page and over 90% of people opted-in. it was 4,000 people or so. all got there from free traffic (forums and blogs).

I had a online hat shop client that had conversion rates of around 40% (including bounced people) - was chuffed with that!

on a product launch, with an email list that likes you and your product alot, and you offer a $1 trial on it, you can get 50+ conversion rate.

From adwords - expect anything from 1%-5%
