I was interested in getting some traffic from forums by putting a link in my signature as I only have a fresh site and thought of outsourcing it. I had a few questions..

1. 1. Would this be unnatural for Google when they see a whole bunch of links coming from the one site?

2. 2. Does anyone know of a video course or tutorial or case study for this method?

I don't think forum signature would bring you as much as social media would.. At least not from my experience.

Forum sig links usually aren't dofollow.

And YES - you can get heaps of traffic from forums, provided that it's popular, targeted to your niche, and ranks high on Alexa.

A month back, 90% of the traffic I got to my website was from the WF. Since then social media has taken over, but I still get 10-20 views from the WF per day.

And ya know what's even better? The traffic I get is quality - targeted to my niche. The conversion rates for traffic referred from the WF is much, much higher (conversion rate = traffic/subscriptions).

I'm actually in the middle of writing a blog post about forum marketing. I'll PM you with the link once it's published.

Most forums do not allow linking or advertising in signatures.

I think using forums for traffic is a great way to build for the future.

It may not be heaps of traffic you get but if you offer an incentive in your signature then you could earn yourself subscribers to your list every single day.

I agree. Plus, you learn from other people as you read their comments. So I see forum commenting as a win-win. It can drive traffic to your site while you are expanding your own knowledge and doing research for your next post.

If you are in forum, just for your interest let's say you are here and you like to write posts and so on... I don't see any reason, why you shouldn't put it in your signature it doesn't matter, maybe someone will see it or not, you have nothing to loose But you should try to get traffic only this way

You do notice traffic bumps from posting in forums, but it dies off quite quickly unless you remain very active. Social media is more time efficient in my opinion. For example, you can attract people to your new blog posts and free gifts with a lot more freedom in social media.

(read: see my christmas gifts on my blog)

The best way is to do both and track results in GA. You'll soon work out what works for you. Clearly forum posting does work. Look at the success of the warrior forum!

The link is usually nofollow, so Google will turn a blind eye to it.

As far as I know, there's no case study as such on it. Just see what works for you and your link.

Don't worry by Google. This traffic is legit and focused! But sometimes the conversion rate is a bit low...

If you provide good information (good posts, good answers etc..) you will get good traffic!

My experience dictates that forum signatures are mainly for generating DIRECT visitors.

I honestly don't think it will be of much use for backlink juice.

(Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd wager most forum signatures to be no-follow in nature).

    But, here's the good thing.

You can actually attract some awesome visitors from forum signatures.

Just by promoting my blog here, I get a boatload of traffic.

But it DOES take work. You can't just make low quality junk comments and expect people to click your stuff.

But if you impress somebody? There's a good chance they'll click.

And when you're in a massive forum? Who knows whose attention you might attain?

You can get traffic from your signature from the readers of your posts, to be effective you have to be very active in posting and provide value to the forum. Join a few forums of the niche you are in, so there is a fair distribution of PR so the SE will like it more.

Ignore all of the posters that suggest that Google will ignore nofollow anchors. Nofolllow links can still get you a penguin penalty. So, be careful with your anchor text, i.e., use non-exact match anchors. That is, unless you aren't planning on getting any organic traffic from your signature links.

And yes, forums can send a good amount of targeted traffic to your website. You will have to be active on the forum to see the best results.

I don't think it will be unnatural. You can get good traffic for your website by putting your website link in forum signature.
