does length of domain renewal affect SEO?

there used to be this notion that if you renewed your domain for a long period, lets say 5 years, google took it as a sign of stability and could help your SEO. Recently Matt Cutts said it didnt matter "to the best of his knoweldge", but can any of you shed any practical experience on this matter? frankly I could use anything to improve my ranking, even the slightest of factors

    I have seen no evidence that this is so. In some countries, like Australia - .com.au, the renewal term is fixed. The only reason I would go for >1 year is for a BIG discount.

    It hasn't been proved but i guess it would mean something.

    For example If a search engine had only two websites to rank and all other things are same I guess they would rank the domain higher which was renewed for a longer period of time.

    Even renewal date - I (as a search engine) would trust a business who has renewed their domain 3 months in advance compared to a business that renews their domain 3 days before expiry.

    Again nothing proved but this could/should be a factor. Or this would be a factor in future.

      Anyone that's had a website/page ranked longer than a year knows that's nonsense.

        Years ago, it was stated that a longer domain renewal would help rankings, but I have never seen evidence of this.
