When I start to add Backlinks - Website disappears

Has anyone in the WF seen this before with one of their websites - My site of 6 months old is on page 1 of MSN and yahoo and page 2 on google for my keyword. I started to add anchored backlinks (various keywords/deep linking etc) and the next day the site has gone from google - I take the links down and it's back again after 4-5 days. I even used Angelas backlinks and the same thing happened - next day gone. Took them down and the website was back again, waited a few weeks started to add more backlinks and its gone again. I'm guessing I need to just start adding links everyday regularly to fix it. Any thoughts and ideas would be really appreciated - can't figure this one out :confused:
