Will 301 Redirecting 20+ Websites To A Main Site Work?

Quick background on the sites:

~20 NFL Licensed Gear Ecommerce Sites. PR4-6, 6-12 years old, and High PA/DA. The general url structure is [TeamName][Brand].com

I'm thinking about 301 redirecting each of these sites to [Brand].com/[TeamName]

The goal is to create a super high power website that can compete nationally for terms like Football Jerseys, Gear, Merchandise, etc. I'll also continue to rank for each of those teams, as I'll be 301ing entire sites including all the subpages. Building the brand is also a big part of the move.

I don't have a site for every single NFL team, so if I add products/teams in the future; I'd instantly have authority in that market.

What are thoughts on that?

My main concern is that 20 sites is too many to redirect, even though they are going to different locations on the website. Do you think a penalty would happen or what?

Any advice is appreciated, although I'd much rather have someone speak from past experience than simply theory.

Thanks. ~englandrm

Em I've got a funny feeling...

That you are looking at a bunch of expired domains to buy. With the keywords "Jersey" in them. Those domains are total toxic waste, stay well clear of anything with..

    Jersey
    Monclear
    Louis Vuitton
    Ugg Boots
    Micheal Kors
    Oakley

To name but a few. They are the de-indexed churn and burn junk that some mega spammers have left out there. Nuclear waste.

If the sites are legitimate, have good backlinks, and you're just redirecting them to their new home - why not. If it's anything else I'd be very nervous about doing it.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

I do not believe the benefits of 301 redirects are accumulative. Maybe redirects from each old domain to different pages within the new site may work. I guess there's only one way to find out

You can try yes... But just be sure that those websites are STRONG and have ONLY GOOD backlinks! Otherwise, this could be a reason for a ranking drop in the future!
