How do I rank a Youtube Video?

Currently I'm building links to my money site by guest blogging, but what is the best method for youtube videos?

Would it be worthwhile including a link to my youtube video as well in a guest post?

For a keyword I want to rank for, that is highly competitive, there is a youtube video from another distributor that is ranking #1 and it only has 3 root domain backlinks, and about 250k views.

I don't understand as the keyword is very profitable with about 30k google searches a month.

I heard stories of people being able to rank youtube videos on page one rather quickly.

Thanks

Hello Kangen, Those are some strategies that you can do to Rank your youtube videos:

    YouTube-Channel:

Frequency -> How often logged in, how many actions (ratings and comments on other videos, comment answers etc), how many new video uploads …
Trust -> Age of channel, number of subscriber, count of channel views, total views (all uploaded videos), connected Google+ profile (!), perhaps adsense (?)
Authority -> Channel title, channel keywords and description, link to homepage, related channels, playlists (for each: title, keywords, description)

    onVideo:

Keyword relevance -> Video title (video upload filename), keywords and description ( including outgoing links to relevant sites), annotations, video transcript.
Freshness may be a ranking factor
    HD quality (of course)
Attractive Thumbnail -> usually you can’t incluence that (be sure to choose the best out of three), importent because the clickrate in listes (search results or “more videos” on the right of a youTube-video-page)

    User action:

Number of views ( Very Important Factor )
Audience retention -> Absolute (depends on video length) and relative (compared to other videos with the same length)
Reactions -> Nunber of comments (keywords in comments?), Comment reactions (discussion = good!), Number of Thumbs up, Thumbs up / down ratio, number of favourites, video responses, Number of playlist-addings

    Recommendations / Sharing:

Social Media sharing -> eg. facebook, twitter, google+ (!), and other popular services. Power of each signal depends on the “profile-strength” of the sharing person
Embeddings -> number and strength of sites, that embedded this video
Number of Backlinks to the youTube video-page

Thank you for this. I am still learning on ranking YT videos as well.

It is indeed a lot of work, but I am sure it will work.

It's crazy trying to rank a Youtube video in Google SERPs instead of a money page.

Yeah but they can't rank their money page with their shitty links, but they can rank a YT video so. Whats a dog gonna do?

I am actually in the process of ranking my money page. In the past month, I've achieved page 4 for a highly competitive and profitable search term - only after acquiring about 10 backlinks. Also, the links aren't shitty, they are mostly all guest post backlinks on websites with a PR of 1 to 4 including high MozRank and MOzTrust (4-5+).

I believe it may help towards supplementing an extra traffic flow and or additional brand awareness. Having my money site and a youtube video on the first page of a keyword would be better than just one of either.

Yep, your competition on the Youtube right sidebar will be happy. Nobody on Youtube will watch only one video.

      Why not both?

YT ranks ridiculously well without a ton of effort. I've got a handful of videos and money pages that rank in the top 5 together. (With most of the videos directing viewers to the money page to learn more.)

Edit - I see you basically replied to this earlier in the thread.

It does work well for me though. Plenty of traffic comes over from YouTube. Plus, if my video isn't there to grab the attention in the SERPS, someone else's probably would be.

On page 1 it's easy, but for a strong keyword, you won't be able to get #1 place so quick... You need to build some really good backlinks (*just like you do for a normal website/blog!) and of course try to make your video more popular (get more views using Facebook, Twitter), but WITHOUT spamming!

What I do is I do not worry much about ranking on youtube but instead I give value content and then syndicate on social media and get lots of views that way. I hope that helps. Thanks.

Clue is in the title really,

are there any methods to make a youtube video rank for a certain keywords apart from using that word in the video title and description?

    thanks

    Use This Strategie :

Submit article contain your video url to the top article directories.

creat slideshow and upload them to popular document sharing sites.

Create an MP3 file from the audio of your original video and use it to create podcasts and submit it to podcast sites. You can also submit it to MP3 sharing sites as well.

Make a PDF from your articles and submit them to document sharing sites.

Submit your article to popular web 2.0 sites with your video embeded on the article.

Bookmark your video to the top bookmarking sites.

Use animoto to create a simple video and blast those videos to a bunch of video sites except You Tube.

Volume is usually key to these types of authority websites that can handle the massive influx of links. Diversify the anchor text.

If it's a high competition / high ROI per visitor/lead video then you can approach it the same as any other website, but know it can handle more of the tier 2 type links, such as forum profiles and blog comments.

Currently ranking a Facebook Fan page for the term "affiliate marketing" using this strategy, because Facebook is highly trusted, same as Youtube.

Agree. Not so many things changed here (backlinks / views / likes), and many times it's easier / faster to rank a YouTube video, than what it takes to rank text based content on a new domain.

If you want to work less, try to make videos for long tailed keywords with less competition.

As far as I know it doesn't work like that. InnovationStream was talking about the right stuff. YouTube has this thing they call "total engagement" which means user clicks, thumbs ups/downs, subscribes, comments, etc. They also track the viewing time of videos, not just views. There's the obvious stuff like titles and descriptions, but these community and video related factors are important. I believe this changed a lot in 2012.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

Some excellent points here. Yes as mentioned many ways to improve rankings. Social signals and interaction play a big role these days as well as views. i have seen many videos even marketing ones with views topple others videos who just rely on SEO/backlinking. Not always but majority of the time a video with real full retention views will almost always outrank a video with even the best SEO/backlinks.

@ Anton and Seontushell, thanks, I keep hearing this advice but Ive tired it and so far no joy.

If I understand it right the theory is that because YT is such an authority site, it wont get penalized for having spammy links and as such the links will help my vids rank.

    So far so good?

So by blasting my vids with comments, bookmarks, wikis, profiles, etc the vids will rank much easier than ranking a webpage.

    So far so still good?

So if Ive tried this and my vids arent rankings (Ive done very solid on page SEO) do I just keep building links? Do I need embeds as well? Is it basically a numbers game? Do follow/nofollow make much difference?

Sorry to bombard you with questions, Ive been running tests on this for ages now and cant get the rankings...YET

Any advice form people who know how to rank videos with out "quality SEO" greatly appreciated

For me it has been fairly easy to rank on YT on medium hard keywords on first page within 2 weeks or so.

    Keyword research is important.
    Also use alternative keywords.
Your description has to be good, with optimal keyword density, and at least 3 call to actions.
Use TrafficGeyser to spread your video to other sites as well (this you have to do correctly for it to rank your YT video).
    Facebook, Twitter, and bookmarking sites.
You can always give yourself extra boost with PPC.

Sit back and relax, and video should make page 1 within a couple of weeks.

I just need to try some really hard niches, and keywords now.
(Have succeeded in part of IM before, but want more)

I forgot to mention channel. Channel is important as well (description, and name).

Post a video a week, and you can end up dominating your niche.

Once you understand that your ranking a web page & not the actual video, life gets easier because it's basic SEO (ranking a page).
