Huge potential SEO benefit - will it work?

Hi everyone,

If I was able to get thousands of people to put a graphic up on their website or in their forum signatures, and that graphic was hyperlinked back to my website, would this give me SEO benefit?

In other words, the IMG tag would be wrapped in an HREF tag. I have alwasy thought text links were most important but I might be able to get a LOT of people to link back to me with images.

How? I'm thinking of deploying a script that allows my visitors to make custom tickers (pregnancy tickers, for example ... so they can put on their blog how much time is due until baby arrives. Self updating graphic).

If this works it is a great strategy to get backlinks ... but will IMG backlinks be useful?

    Don't just use the image tag. Also include an actual link in the code so if someone clicks the image they are taken to your site.

    Optimize the code by naming the image(s) a relevant keyword, use a keyword or two (or three) in the alt tag of the image, as well as in the title tag of the href link.

    If you want to go "advanced", randomize the keywords a bit, so each person gets slightly different code with different variations of keywords.

    Kurt - the IMG tag would be within the standard "a href" tag so that it would link back to my site, that's the idea. So are you saying that this is a good idea to go for?

    and dont forget to use an alt tag on the image. keep it to no more than 4 words though.

    Hi guys - here is the result. I bought this as a WSO ... $37 seems quite reasonable considering the promotional upside it can yield.

    I have modified the HTML portion of the script to fix a few errors, and make it more user friendly. Here is the result ... it works, feel free to test it out.

    Notice I did add the title + alt tags suggested by you guys above.

    Now I have to promote it!
