Exit Pop Ups and Google Adwords

Hi there -

I am planning to put an exit pop up on my ebook download page.

So that when people buy my ebook they hit the download page and when they are done then get an exit pop upselling them to my membership site.

Most of my traffic comes from Google PPC ...

So my question is - Will Google penalise me (in my adwords score/costings) for having an exit pop up on my download page?

I know they may penalise if you have an exit pop on you adwords landing page - but does anyone know if Google even care when it comes to your download page?

Thanks

John

I do something similar, and I've had no problems.

    Hi John,

I have no idea if Google will penalize you. But if you use an exit pop up, at least use something classy like Robert Plank's Action Popup.

Those pop-ups where the window comes up with "Cancel" and "Okay" are absolutely annoying! Especially if there is more than one of them. That just ticks me off--as it does most people--make me determined even more to get the heck out of there ASAP!

I agree with ProCopy, if you do it tastefully then there probably isn't a problem with it. The windows that try to force your browser to stay on the page will annoy your users and could result in complaints.

No, Google won't penalize. It only applies to your landing page. Besides, they shouldn't be able to see your download page.
