I am brand new to the whole SEO game but from what I understand there are a lot of things you DON'T want to do because it can hurt your rating. I have a brand new ecommerce site / blog and watched a video about this guy using pingfarm.com when ever he has a new page. Is this safe to do or is it considered blackhat?
#pingfarm #safe

Don't apply any shortcut for traffic and ranking purpose. Do off page for your site you will get backlink accordingly.

It's not blackhat, it's old hat. Pinging basically tells the spiders "come here, we exist, or something has changed". The web was founded on links, also known as a "vote" for another website, determined by the Google Pagerank algorithm.

Pinging skips this principle and attempts to go directly to Google and doesn't follow the chain of command. It used to work great years ago, but it tends to hurt websites with weaker offpage SEO than helps.

      This.

Basically pinging is for alerting to new content or content that has changed. So, if you are telling Google about something new...or something that has changed...go for it.

After Google updates Ping-farms are not healthy anymore for websites specially if they are just new.Leave this matter on Google to index your backlinks manually. Its will be good and safe for your website.

Pingfarm is not so good way in present, you should use seo off page activities in a better way or create strong backlinks from high PR sites or related to your niche,

I think it's good to use

Use it on your tiered backlinks. I like using it on bulk backlinks on my second tier.

If you are building quality links, there is no reason to ping them.

Pingfarm is a form of BlackHat SEO. It may spam a website because it is violation of Google Guidelines.

      That makes no sense.

Pinging isn't black hat. Tons of blogs do it everyday.

It's blackhat if you are constantly spamming to other sites. I don't think there is a need to use pingfarm, you can easily provide content to the web using normal methods. Spiders are very good at picking out new content, plus you don't want to get banned by google

Well if I go off of what you're saying then all I need to do is scrape all of my competitors backlinks, load them into pingfarm, ping away, and then they will be banned. Leaving me at the top of the search engines and gaining all the traffic in the world

It doesn't work like that, it would be pretty nice if it did though

I think you won't have any real issues using it for 2nd or 3rd tier links though we don't usually ping or force index any of the links we build for clients; you want links to come at a natural pace rather than to have 100+ links over night.

Google is really good at crawling and finding pages so you don't need to ping your links for the most part anyways.

We only suggest pinging links 30-50 days AFTER they are build because by this time you already have 50-80% of the links index.

If you do ping evereday or every hour then it will confirm hurt your site. But if you do pinging only when your site has something changed then its not a problem in pinging you can ping but my advice is to ping atleast after 15 days of last ping.

I used to ping my websites once every week in the past few years. After several Google updates, I've decided to stop this action altogether.

Why don't you use your spare time to do other SEO works, rather than spending it for pinging?
