Initial Protocol for Basic Link Building

Im really confused on the process of building backlinks to a small 5 page niche startup site.

Do I need backlinks pointing to just the homepage or do I need backlinks pointing to every page I want to rank in google?

If I submitted my site to an site directory would I have to submit all 5 individual pages as well, if I wanted those keywords to rank for those pages?

    Ideally you would want to build backlinks to each page, as well as the homepage. You can link to your homepage from within your individual pages to help the homepage rank higher. Unfortunately, it isn't quite as easy as just submitting to site directories. Spend time reading through this section of the forum for ways to build backlinks that will be beneficial to you

    Its always a good idea to create baclinks for each individual pages and in case of directories you should only focus on submitting the home page as most directories only allows homepage addresses.

    Random links from directories won't help you much in SEO.

    You need to get real links. Learn how to market your content and forget low quality links.

    Just a question: What kind of links are you trying to "create" to this startup site?

      So internal linking actually holds some weight outside of just better site structure?

      TBH this site was ONLY created to rank the article landing pages...for the actual homepage I have not decided on a keyword yet.

      With that in mind what is the fastest way to build a backlink for each article landing page....since they are low comp I dont need mega juice links or tons of backlinks just one for each page for now.

      Nothing specific...I just want to rank for each of the 5 low competition keyword landing pages....I am assuming even though they are real low competition that just writing articles and proper on page seo isnt enough.

        Well, only so much weight as you have coming into your pages.. basically just a trickle down effect. If you have good links coming into your individual pages, and all those pages have your homepage link on them, some of that "juice" will trickle into your homepage. Same the other way around, homepage --> inner pages

    My advice would be to look at linkbuilding as promotion instead of linkbuilding. Try to get links on sites that will actually drive traffic to your own. Typically these links will be of higher quality and are less risky overall.
