Hi guys,
I was wondering if you use the description tag and if it has any impact on the general SEO of the webpage. Does it have any weight?

I hear some people say that I don't need it and some say it is crucial.

Thanks!

I'm not an SEO expert but I believe it does have some weight. But the biggest benefit is that Google will use your description as part of your SERP listing, under your page title. Use it as your sales pitch to attract clicks. So to me, for that one reason, it is crucial.

It's a good idea to include one, if you don't then Google with pick out the content of your page containing the keywords that have been searched for and supliment that in the SERPs.

I would personally suggest to everybody wishing to SEO their site that a title tag is one of the most important factors, if it contains the same keywords as your title and body content of course.

      Hey Karamazov,

The way I look at it is it can't hurt my site, so I'm going
      to include one.

I agree with mickm the title tag is so important. What I have
done is work with one until it sounds good and has all my keywords
included that I want to rank for.

And, be sure to use all or almost all of the title tag space it's
there for you to use so you may as well use it and not waste it

      Good luck!
