Im assuming no, but is there a penalty for a page entirely composed of pictures and no words? I dont care if the page ranks or not I just dont want it to penalize my whole site or something like that.

Your not getting a penalty for images.

Unless your blasting irrelevant keywords at your alt-text Google doesn't care how many images you have on a page. I have a few sites with thousands of images. I still rank pages.

I think you are missing the point of his post. It seems his whole page is compromised of an image. Which is highly unadvised as Google doesn't see any content. It's much harder to rank a site that has little to no content visible to Google.

I would advise getting content on that site ASAP.

a "page' only not the whole site. site has tons of content on other pages.

Personally I think Google loves images, I even have the idea that some thin sites get away with it due to the amount of images.

Take a typical crappy content farm style blog site for example, they rank worse, at least in my experience, now lately I saw some of these sites but then with tons of images in between the paragraphs and the site did GREAT.

Same thing, Google ranks pages not sites. Meaning that page won't rank well for any serious keywords because it doesn't have any relevant content in Google's point of view.

I understand OP is talking about having only images on a web page, it still doesn't matter. I seriously doubt OP doesn't have any keyword anchor-text links or image alt-text which will show up as plain text on a Google Cache (text version).

If OP doesn't at least do those two things that's his own fault, not a penalty.

No need for articles If that's what you meant by content.

Highly unlikely, except if the pictures include Matt Cutts and various animals in their underwear doing a Google Dance.

I don't think so, I have some site that the content are all pictures. They are photo gallery of celebrities. No other content except images, but they are getting good traffic from google image search.

As long as you do not use those images to spam google by employing spam alt and title tags.
