Is Building an Empire Viable?

Just looking for some validation (or condemnation) on something I've been considering. I'll try to keep this short:

1) I want to create one or two new sites per week (on blogger).

2) On each site, add in 10-20 pieces of high quality contnet (I'm a freelance writer, so I get the content for free). *spreading out the content so it is posted once per day or every other day

3) After they are indexed, I would add on AdSense and/or Amazon associates links (Depending on niche).

Repeating this indefinately.

Once this is established, I can go through and see which sites are successful and then consider buying a .com and running the site on my self hosted domain (forwarding the blogger site to the new one) and continuing to add content as needed.

I've never done anything like this, but read that having an 'empire' of sites can be very profitable. This would be a third basket for my eggs, so to speak, since I already work a normal 9-5, plus make a full time income from freelance writing.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Criticisms. *I prefer comments based on experience rather than opinion if possible, but I'll take it all.

Thanks

Michael

My biggest concern would be where you are going to find the time to write these 10-20 pieces of quality content. Is that quality in the sense that they make sense to readers or quality in the sense that they add real value to the internet?

I'm not saying the former won't make you money by the way, I'm just curious as to how you are going to fit all of your commitments into a 24 hour day.

10-20 pieces of quality content per site, and I'm hoping to do 1-2 new sites per week, so at most that is 20-40 per week, which isn't a problem.

I'm a fast writer, and still keep my quality high. I am a big proponant of quality>quantity so if some weeks I can't build out a new site without sacrificing on the quality, I won't.

Also, if this works well, I'd outsource the actual creation/posting process and I'd just do the writing.

For me, the writing is the easiest part.

    Why would you do this?

Look at it like this & all the 2.0 empire becomes irrelevant:
    • Is anyone interested in this niche?
    • Do people spend money in this niche?

You don't need a website to figure that stuff out.
