I am busy with some Amazon sites of mine and trying out some different setups while aiming to keep the number of affiliate links on pages to an absolute minimum without killing conversions too much.

Let me explain:

This is the category page: [EDIT: link removed]

Each product there links to the review and to Amazon with a button named: "CUSTOMER REVIEWS"

On the product page itself there is no affiliate link present anymore, only a link back to the category at the bottom of the review.

My question: You think this would confuse the visitor, as they can end up in a loop from product page to category page to product page to category page and so on if they chose to ignore the "customer reviews" button (which takes them to Amazon).

The images are on purpose de-hyper linked already to give them less of a choice.

Normally I would lead them to a best page / list / comparison page on my site but actually I like the category layout / format more.

To start, your "Customer Reviews" button doesn't take them to the reviews ... just the amazon product page.

And yes, I think that's confusing. There's a price on those pages, but no way of buying the product. I know from your other WarriorForum posts that you are trying to get away from Amazon links on every page, but if I go to the Mantis Tiller page, read it, and want to buy it ... there is no direct way for me to get there.

I'm not saying take out "more reviews" link, I think that helps user experience, but if I want to buy, how do I do it?

    Couple more suggestions:
    1) The star rating is nice, but doesn't tell me how many reviews there are ... I think adding that would add more value for the user.

    2) (this is probably just me) - I like your category page, but each individual product is so tall that I can't them all at once. Maybe a full width list would help ...

    3) Maybe also group them into power and manual. The price difference is so much, and the user probably knows which one they want.

Scroll down the Amazon product page and you'll find customer reviews.

My thing is that I don't want to scare them right away with buy now buttons, I want to kind of trick them to end up on Amazon as you understand.

Problem could be solved with BUY NOW text's and then at the bottom of the product review a text like: Click here to buy the product and/or read more reviews, or something like that.

Just changed the product page to this format to make it a bit more clear:

      [EDIT: Link removed]

Not a bad idea to show how many users reviewed it, kind of tough to code though.

I like the category page as well, I had a full width list earlier but that looked kind of amateurish. You know of any plugins that create great looking full width lists?

The site isn't finished yet, it was just about the basic setup. When more products are added I can group it better yes.

Right, but direct linking to the product reviews (so they don't have to scroll) or the product review page would be a better user experience.

I like the new layout you linked to. Only thing you need now is a call to action. User gets to the end of the article, then what? There's nothing for them to do. They will most likely click the back button and leave.

Just did, let's see how this works out in terms of conversions!

The thing I compare the conversion to is a best list of products but that seems a bit redundant as the category page is already that. Hence this new approach.

          Thanks for the suggestions.

It's only a bad user experience, if they don't buy something.

I looked at the site, that theme actually looks better than what I expected (clean/simple) but the content isn't helpful.

What country are you targeting? If your targeting US traffic, we don't use words like hectares, we use acres. That article instantly tells me someone outside of the US wrote the article, I don't even have to guess.

IMO you would be better off from a user POV to list facts instead of silly articles. Think like Wikipedia articles & remove your opinion from the content. The product/article I looked at was 97% fluff.

Ready to purchase? Go back to the previous page and click "Buy Now"
Seriously? Nobody will buy from a site where they have to try & figure out a half baked sales funnel.

No way would a site like that ever convince me to get my credit card out.

What text would you put there if you don't want to monetize that product page?

I know about the articles, especially the introduction paragraph is complete useless and the rest isn't much better. But yeah what to write about a manual piece of hardware called a cultivator/tiller. Targeting the US yes.
