seomastering offers a pagerank prediction service that often shows my sites' real pr to be a lot higher than Google's pr.

Why is this?

Because their service is completely useless.

Mike, the Google PR for the site in question is 5. I checked yours. I am very new to understanding PR-- however my sites have been around for awhile. My PR looks off. I am trying to get analysis I can understand.

Those prediction programs will never be accurate.

PR is based on backlinks. You can never see the same number of backlinks that Google can, so you do not have the same amount of data they are using. Also, things like the numbers of links on a page, the location of the links, etc. impact how much PR is passed on from link to link.

Because they made up a scoring system that pulls its data thin air?

It seems Alexa's developers are behind that service , Google's PR is unpredictable. Such tools just count the number of links (they found) pointing to a site and calculate a figure. It has nothing to do with real PR.

It's unfortunate that they call it "real pagerank" when in fact it's got nothing to do with the real thing. They're deliberately confusing people like OP, which really just takes away all the credibility they might otherwise have. It's not a bad tool for what it is - a simple compilation of data from different sources.
    Signature
Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?
