Or you can treat the blog as a business and use PPC with a GUARANTEE of top 3 placings.

PPC is your marketing budget. (If you can't afford a marketing budget for your business, then you shouldn't be in business).

SEO will take you YEARS to master (even if you are a genius in the top 5% of Internet Marketers AND you will then have to constantly master the newer/constantly changing Google search analogues)

BS, PPC still has a learning curve & a quality score algo. Your not guaranteed top 3 paid positions on the SERPs.

BS, it's not uncommon to start a profitable online/offline business on a shoestring budget. I personally know an extremely successful business owner that's money smart (owns a string of self built offline stores, started out broke). I also know a few business owners that are foolish with their money.

Plain text & links isn't rocket surgery, still ranks pages in 2014.

  • PPC is a great way to go. Although things like Adwords and Bing Ads are a bit expensive if you are not directly advertising a product. If you are using PPC to advertise blog posts then you will be paying a high premium.

There are much more affordable PPC option available if you just do a bit of digging.

BuySellAds.com is a great place if you are looking to buy some targeted banner ads on blogs.

You can also use PPC on stumbleupon and Reditt. These two sites still have reasonable cpc and they have targeted traffic as well.

There are other ad exchanges as well. Just do a quick google search and you can come up with numerous options.

That being said you will not beat the exposure that Google and Bing Ads will give you. If you can grab some low search, high quality long tail keywords you can make some good money that way.

    PPC?

    SEO?

    I'm doing both.

It depends on what your advertising needs are.

What are you guys thoughts on Media Buying?

    • Media Buying needs to be done carefully. When done right it can drive some massive results quickly. It is a great way to build a list.

  • This all sounds pretty solid to me. Although I would expand on keyword research quite a bit. I would do keyword research around a broad topic and create a list of 500 to a 1000 keywords first using a number of different sources. Then export all the keywords to excel of google spreadsheet. Sort and remove the duplicates. Then manually go through and sort them into tightly grouped section of 20 to 50 or so keywords. Then craft pieces of content around each of these keyword themes.

Just for good measure run each keyword klist through bing and google and make sure between them there is at least 1500 monthly searches or more. Make sure to add a number of long tail semantic keywords into the article. Put the key phrase within the first 100 words of the article. Make sure that it is in the first portion of the title as well.
