Hello Warriors,

This forum is so amazing to get relevant answer to your queries, therefore I have one another question.
I hope someone shed some lights on it.

when I do search as site:domain.com
I can see indexed pages but along it I can also see mobile version of website is indexed and also showing on second page of Google.
I am afraid that once mobile version website optimized well, it might rank for some keywords in desktop. That I dont wand to see.

Can someone tell he how can I optimize mobile version of website so that it only shows in mobile and not in desktop.

Thanks in advance!!

    Add a canonical tag in your mobile pages header pointing to the desktop version of your web page.

      Yes This is exactly what I did as Google said.
      But it is still showing in Desktop version on 2nd page of Google.

      Is this takes time then how much an average?

        What date did you add the canonical tag & what's the current date on the same web pages Google cache?

          Exactly 1st of Feb I have implemented the code on both mobile and desktop version of website.
          Today I check the cache date of mobile url it is showing - 19 Jan 2014 06:48:58 GMT.

          So in this case Google has not re-indexed mobile version of website again.

            Correct, Google hasn't found the canonical tag yet.

            Maybe add a temporary followed internal link on your Home page pointing at the mobile version of your web page (I guess the mobile URL is unique). That will get Googlebot to land on your mobile page & find the canonical tag. Once you see the problem resolved then remove the link on the Home page that's pointing at the mobile page.

    Google has set up a tutorial for this. Since it's google's, I assume it's what will work:
    Annotation in the HTML

    We support two methods to have this annotation: in the HTML of the pages themselves and in Sitemaps. For example, suppose that the desktop URL is example.com/page-1 and the corresponding mobile URL is m.example.com/page-1. The annotations in this example would be as follows:
    On the desktop page, add:

    <link rel="alternate" media="only screen and (max-width: 640px)"
    href="http://m.example.com/page-1" >

    and on the mobile page, the required annotation should be:

    <link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/page-1" >

    This rel="canonical" tag on the mobile URL pointing to the desktop page is required.

    So I am back with the possible implementation to not to show mobile version site in desktop SERP. I have included coding as suggested from google https://developers.google.com/webmas...-sites/details

    I have waited to index both version of website again so that I can see effect but still after implementation I can see both version website in desktop SERP when I search for site:domain.com

    Is there something I am missing?

    Can you post the keyword that's triggering the mobile page on desktop search & the URL of the problem page? Hard to help without being able to see what's going on.

      Its not coming for any keyword yet but I am afraid it will be shown in desktop for keyword that I dont want to do.
      If I search for site:domain.com then mobile version of website comes on second places after main website.

      I will sent you url in PM.

      OP already did that, Google SERPs still shows 300+ mobile pages indexed from a desktop search after the pages have been re-cached (including the canonical tags).

      Responsive pages are easier to manage (one version of each page).
