I have a small network of sites that I use for back-linking purposes and was wondering what the best strategy is for anchor text. Having a diverse anchor link profile is important for seo these days so should I just use any random word as the anchor text along with the occasional keyword even if that word has no relevance to the article I'm linking to? Or should I link to my site using the domain name at the bottom of the article?

    Domain name, your own name, generic text like "click here," some related keywords are all good ideas.

    One way of increasing link diversity is doing something like this:
    link 1: http://www.mysite(dot)com
    link 2: http://mysite(dot)com
    link 3: www.mysite(dot)com
    link 4: mysite(dot)com

    Thanks for the advice. It's just trying to integrate the links into the content of the page in a natural way that I'm having trouble with. If I'm going to use my domain name then it would be more natural to do that at the end of the article under "resources".

    Yes, by using brand name, website url and non commercial words, link diversity can be done.

    Don't listen to the crap about link diversity.

    Use keywords or partial keywords for your best links. Don't waste their power with crap like "click here", brand names, and URLs.

    You can get those generic links with your lower quality links.

      I would listen to some of the crap about link diversity!
      Agreed you shouldn't waste your power links on click here type anchors, but I now only use related and longtail versions of my main keyword, plus brand anchors.

      Plus it's much easier to write in naturally if you aren't set on one particular version of your keyword.

    I'm ranking sites that are pushing 75-80% of their links having the same anchor text.

    The whole percentages thing is a crock. If you are building good links, it doesn't matter.

    If you are spamming 8000 links a day, yeah it is an easy way to get flagged faster.

    As others have said - don't waste your network sites with non-relevant anchors. Use your main keyword(s) and some long tail combinations on these sites.

    Use other (cheaper) link sources to create variation in your anchor text profile with the branded and 'click here' type links.

    Diversity is important if you plan on ranking long term. I agree that you don't need to waste the high quality links with diversity but you should have diversity in your incoming links.

    I'd be willing to bet there are few sites that are ranking long term with no distribution of anchor text.

    Seo takes so much time. The best link diversity I found is PPC. However don't use google because they will slap you at some point as they do for anyone that starts to make money through their services. Goggle is not a good business model.

    If you have a specific keyword A/C to your article then this best for use if not then you can use your domain name brad name etc etc....

    Try and use brand names and un-masked URLs when building links. Don't over do exact match link building, that's where most people go wrong.
